My weekend in the kitchen: (3 pics less than 20k ea.)
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 11:00 PM by Ptah
I got tired from waiting for summer to end
and decided to bake.

Even though I usually wait until the temp. is at 90 or less,
on a day that the high was about 105, I made some bread.

I only succumb to butter when I have fresh bread.

I grew up on the prairie, and have an abiding understanding
of how this bread came to be.

1. That is one lovely loaf!
And it's a good thing that you didn't butter a slice for these pics. Some things are just too painful to view when you can't reach over and snitch a corner.

You reminded me that we have a small watermelon sitting next to the fridge. Thanks!

2. Yes, it's as good as it looks.
If you are ever in the neighborhood, I'll toast
a couple of slices for you.

3. I lived in eastern Colorado when I first moved here from NYC
There's nothing like being in the middle of wheat fields in late spring - right before the combines roll in!

4. I was born and bred on the prairie under the big sky.
I am now in the desert, and still drift back to
the green grain of the spring.

as is the sting song "fields of barley"

or somethig like that.

I was in Denver for a short period of my life.

6. Thanks for the welcome.
Since I am a newbie, I find it difficult
to join in.

Every welcome is worth its weight in gold.

:hippie:

Thank you, eleny

and that's some good-looking bread :-).

I have relatives who grow wheat in Saskatchewan, so I can relate.

9. I know that feeling....
Both of them, in fact.

We made bread last week, too, and I'll probably be making more tonight, since DH has realized how much he adores PB&J on our bread for breakfast. (and I'm not complaining - it's fast, tidy, tasty and healthy.)

And I, too, come from farm stock - my family farm in Indiana is organic soy and dent corn, but the sight of a corn field makes me nostalgic.

And feel welcome. We don't bite (each other), (okay, maybe save maybe Sparkly and H2S) and while we may be a bit slow in responding, we're a pretty welcoming group.

10. I think it's the hurricane tragedy that's got us away from the food group
And it's a time that makes a person feel like nurturing.

17. My days of bein' a house-wolf got severely curtailed...
After 3 years of being home I had to go back to work, started a new job the last week of July. It's nice getting a pay check again and being able to take care of a few things that I'd been putting off but the comute is HORRIBLE (1 hr+ each way) so I haven't been able to do much more than read a few posts in the evening.

I miss hanging my DU time A LOT!
