I tried making my first ever apple pie, and it was a disaster!
I didn't seal it right so the filling bubbled over and started burning between the pie plate and the crust. Ack! Learn by doing I guess, I'll try it again this weekend :)

1. I've tossed lots of pies
and other things I've cooked when learning. The dogs like it when i fuck something up because they get to eat it. They don't care if it's burned or not.

4. Pie is hard to learn
My mother got sick of hearing from my father about his mother's pies. So, she cooked a pie a week until she got it right.

I've always thought that apple pie recipes call for way too much filling. What does everyone else think?

6. I don't like it too juicy.
If I used can filling, I leave out some of the juice.

For me at least, most apple pie recipes call for too much filling and sugar. That's why I've always love my grandma's recipe. It tastes more like baked apples and less like syrup.

8. Pies are too hard for me.
I like apple crisp just as much and it is much easier to make, so I ususally do that instead.

9. Pies
I'm an excellent cook and baker, but pies are my enemy. My crust usually shrinks on me-- don't feel bad. I just don't bother with them since I an not one for eating sweet foods. Practice makes perfect, so keep trying.

10. Cinnamon Apple Crumb Pie - Good and easy
This is an old family recipe. It is good and easy, plus the red color is real festive looking for the holidays.

Cinnamon Apple Crumb Pie

1 unbaked 9" pie crust

5-7 tart apples, cored, peeled, and sliced

Cinnamon sauce:

1 cup cinnamon candies (like red candy hearts )
1/4 cup sugar
1 - 1 1/2 cups of water

Cook sauce over medium heat in heavy pan until candies melt. Stir often.

Crumb crust:

3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
6 Tablespoons butter

Mix til crumbly.

Place a few apples in sauce and simmer 3-5 minutes, turning often. Continue process with all the apples. Place

apples in pie shell. Add 1 Tablespoon cornstarch to 1/2 cup syrup and mix well. Pour over apples and then dot

with butter. Sprinkle crumb crust over pie.

Bake pie at 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

You can also take the rest of the left over syrup and thicken with cornstarch to pour over pie or use whip cream.
