6. Mr. PITA won't eat it, but on special occasions we might go
to Outback, where they serve an outrageous rack of lamb! Ewww, it's SO good! :9

2. I eat a lot of lamb....
I have a friend who raises organic lambs up the mountain from my house, and each summer I slaughter one or two for my freezer. They are REALLY good!

4. OK, I'm sold
I'm tired of the Holy trinity of Beef, Pork, and Chicken.

Ground lambburgers with the tzaziki sauce sound really good right now. If you have a lot of people, I've seen boned leg roasts for cheap at Costco. But a 1b of ground lamb is probably better for me.

5. My folks used to get the legs of lamb sliced for steaks
When leg of lamb was on sale, my mom would ask the butcher to slice the leg into steaks and the sale price made the steaks an absolute steal. Since Costco sells the leg already boned, you could slice it yourself and freeze the slices. Or even grind some meat if you have a grinder or food processor. Lamb is a great change of pace and pretty versatile. I use it for soups when I get a small cut with the bone in.

7. Excellent idea. I get one next time I am in.
I butterflied a leg of lamb myself once. We almost ended up having lamb stir-fry instead. I did some tricky tying with the twine, and managed to get something that approximated a roast, but it was touch and go. I do miss saving the bone. Makes a great stock for lentil soup.

Amazing what a cook can do with twine!

9. I am in the mood for Lamb Vindaloo myself, now that you mention it......
I have a great little Indian cookbook by Julie Sahni and have done the chicken vindaloo - very very spicy tomato-based curry!

But lamb is more traditional.

10. I've never cooked lamb
Is it expensive? I have had it and like it, I just never cooked any.

11. I never cook lamb either
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 05:36 PM by The empressof all
My dad had a pet lamb growing up so he would never eat it. Mom never made it and I never developed a "taste" for it. I do enjoy it if it's highly spiced like in a gyro or in lamb vindaloo but it would never occur to me to order it off a menu or make it at home. I think in my mind I equate it to rabbit (which SO loves and I refuse to cook) or goat (which I have eaten unaware at an Indian Buffet). It's just out of my personal comfort level.

SO's family of origin was big on leg of lamb for the holidays and celebratory meals. I never got it.
