Did you know dill can replace nutmeg?
I now have two confirmations of this fact.

I don't like nutmeg, except in one cookie recipe that I make (Christmas cookies, old family recipe).

I discovered one year that if I put dill instead of nutmeg into quiche, that I actually liked the quiche a whole lot more.

Then tonight, I made a creamed spinach, and even though the recipe didn't call for nutmeg, I know that oftentimes a little pinch is added to spinach dishes. Well, I reasoned, maybe this will also do well with dill?

So, I added dill and it was REALLY good!

Anybody else have ideas where dill can be used where nutmeg normally is? (well, except cookies and sweets, of course)

I also add dill to egg salad, although that's not a nutmeg type dish (to my knowledge anyway)

Just FYI and FY experimentation

1. hey, some recipes use BOTH
I'm thinking of those hamburger stroganoff recipes where the sour creamy sauce has both dill weed and grated nutmeg.

2. I didn't read your entire post at the start, and almost lost my dinner
trying to imagine my pumpkin pie with dill in place of the nutmeg, lol!

4. LOL! Well, don't knock it until you try it..
No, maybe not pumpkin pie, although who knows? That's how new taste sensations are discovered, by trying the unthinkable.

you go first :)

5. But how do you feel about dill?
I don't know why I have issues with nutmeg, maybe traces back to many many years ago when I heard it could induce mind altering states if taken in quantity -- I can't recall if I tried it or not, but if I did, I bet that's where I learned to dislike it. :)
