Christmas morning breakfast....old family recipe for scones |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 03:29 PM by cally
Every Christmas morning of my life, my family has scones. This recipe has been used for a few generations of my family.
Scones
Sift together
2 cups flour 1/4 Sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cream of tartar
Mix in:
Scant cup of buttermilk 3 tbsp. oil
Pat into a approximately 10 inch circle on floured board. Cut into sixths. Grill (yes grill) on med. low heat until brown on both sides.
We eat these with jam or syrup. YMMMMMM.
On edit: Forgot a step.
What do you have?

We have these every christmas morning, the best! We usually add a little more sugar and butter to increase the gooey-ness.
18 Rhodes petite dinner rolls (frozen, from package of 36) 1-pkg Jello Cook-n-Serve Butterscotch pudding mix 1/2-cup butter 3/4-cup packed brown sugar 1/2-cup chopped pecans 1-tbsp cinnamon
Grease bottom and sides of a bundt cake pan and sprinkle a layer of nuts along the bottom. Arrange 18 frozen rolls around bottom of pan Sprinkle the dry pudding mix on top Heat together the butter, cinnamon and brown sugar, mixing well and until thick Pour over top of rolls Let rolls rise in cold oven overnight In the morning, take out of oven and heat to 350* Bake for 25-30 minutes Invert onto plate and ENJOY!
I find that dipping the rolls into the sugar mixture then into pudding mixture before putting into pan mixes better Pour the remaining over top as recommended
