My husband cooked fish in the microwave this afternoon. x(x(x(
It is going to take a week to get the smell out of it for me to be able to use it again...

1. Have you tried boiling some white vinegar & water in it? |
|
The steam might help clean and de-odorize...

3. The vinegar sounds like a good idea. Or baking soda |
|
I think I did that once, didn't think of the vinegar, but dissolved some baking soda in water, then spilled it on the glass plate and turned it on til all the water evaporated. Course, then I had to wipe up all the dried baking soda off the bottom...

put half in a dish and microwave for 1-2 min. Afterwards, wipe down the microwave and everything is clean and deodorized. This has always worked for me and is the only way I clean the inside of my microwave. Good luck!

5. Cook all HIS food in it for the week. |
|
If he complains about the fish smell and taste, make him clean it out.

6. The suggestions of acids like lemon and vinegar are good ones |
|
If that doesn't remove it completely, Febreze the insides and then wash it out thoroughly with soap and water, then hand dry.
Drastic times call for drastic measures. The fishy smell will linger for a while behind the grilles, but the lemon juice and vinegar will get rid of enough of it that it won't contaminate your food.
For the record, I love microwaved fish, especially salmon. Microwaving keeps the flavor of frozen salmon especially intense. I do wrap it, though, and microwave it with thin slices of lemon on top.
