If you've never been to the Alabama gulf coast you probably never heard of Lucy 'Lulu' Buffett.
But I bet you've heard of her brother, Jimmy.
Yep, those Buffetts.
Lucy has a really fun restaurant down in Gulf Shores right on the intracoastal waterway.
http://www.lulusathomeport.com/main/index.phpAnd now she and a friend have written a cookbook.
Yesterday she was kind enough to come to a book signing/fundraiser luncheon for our Friends of the Library bunch. She spoke for about 30 minutes, telling about how the idea for the book came to be and where a lot of her inspiration and recipes came from (her granny).
She was delightful and funny. You can tell she and Jimmy share the same kind of laid back sense of humor.
There are a lot of stories (funny ones) in the book as well as recipes for most of what's on the menu at Lulu's.
It was a much bigger success than she had anticipated and the first printing is sold out. So they're printing another 10,000. Should be available on Amazon.
Here's one recipe for free gratis:
'One Love Marinade'
"I use this marinade for almost everything, thus the name ONE LOVE."
1/2 c. teriyaki sauce
2 T. crushed garlic
1/4 c. mirin or sake
1 t. coarsely ground black pepper
2 T. extra virgin olive oil
2-3 dashes Lulu's Perfect Pepper Hot sauce*.
(*available online and at the restaurant, but Tabasco would probably work fine)
Whisk all together.
Y'all come back now, ya heah?
;-)
