Does anyone have an Ikea kitchen?

or an Ikea-inspired one? I need a new kitchen/living area.

I'm thinking that my future kitchen might look a lot like it. I like their use of small spaces and minimalist design.

I'm looking for someone who has a kitchen like this and if so what do you like/dislike about it?

edit2: This would be complete departure from what the house looks like now. I have a typical 1950s brick ranch. But I believe this modern/slightly futuristic design sense could fit well within my house without being too much of a departure (i.e. without looking like it doesn't belong in the house.)

2. Oh boy that was disappointing

I was so ready to look at kitchens and that site was just a frickin mess to look at. I really didn't appreciate all the zooming and music and crap....Just give me the frickin picture IKEA....Jeeze.

I've seen some nice looking kitchen stuff from them but worry about the quality a bit. You'd still probably need to get professional installations. I'd be interested to know how much money you really save over going with standard cabinets from Lowes.

I agree though, I like the modern edge the IKEA stuff provides...Stay away from Particle Board cabinets though...They kind of creep me out.

but I wonder how much a money-saving deal it will be for me, because I can't do the DIY on the assembly. I'll have to hire someone to do it, if I go the Ikea route.

5. We do! and so far it's been wonderful...

Two years almost, and everything is still shiny and new looking, and my kitchen gets a daily workout! It seems to be wearing very well.

They have all kinds of styles, but our house being modern, we went for light cabinets with flat door panels. The aspect I enjoy most about designing with IKEA is the layouts you can visit, and the online images. We took over a year to plan it all out, then months planning specifics with IKEA. I have everything I wanted, and still saved a ton of money... I never imagined pull our shelves in almost every cabinet... so easy, so clean, so neat.

note... if you save money on the cabinets, you can spend more on the appliances... I got a steam oven in the deal!

7. We have a VERY modern kitchen. I love it.

No upper cabinets to speak of (just one with our hood and one over the fridge on a built-in wall) and use full extension drawers for our dishes. I love it. We went with Kraftmaid, but I looked at Ikea. Here are a couple of links that might be useful:

I have health problems so we're going to sell, and build a smaller, single story house and I'm going very modern again with my design. If you think it through you can really pack a lot of "usability" into a minimalist design.

10. I really like the look of their kitchens

when my friend and I were there a few weeks ago, we were drooling over some rainbow-colored kitchen tiles and just the design in general. Very colorful and funky, with that nice clean Euro feel.

I used to shop Ikea in Pittsburgh when I lived in Ohio and had a very contemporary-ily decorated condo. Now, I find their designs and form, as well as materials, to be cold and not in the least inviting.

They have all sorts of inside info on IKEA products, sections of their forum give loads of ideas for modifications you can easily do with the modular nature of IKEA kitchen cabinets and interior fittings and they are a great group of people. Lots of people there are into the mid-century modern look and IKEA cabinets lend themselves to that style.

I used IKEA cabinets in our new house, but ironically I selected their Tidaholm oak style which looks a little like a modified Shaker style. It fits perfectly in my farmhouse style kitchen.



I need to take new pictures now that we are finished and moved in! This was while we were still building.

16. I like the Ikea look -

but accompanied a friend on a local new home tour and absolutely fell in love with one of the
kitchens...also a very clean modern look. It was by a company called Alno.
The kitchen was in the center of the house rather than up against an outside wall.
And one of the features I really loved was that the wall behind a long counter w/sink was a frosted glass that let natural light in (behind the kitchen was a combo laundry/mudroom that had windows letting in natural light that was then able to come into the kitchen through the glass wall). This glass wall also had the option of soft lighting for nightime that shown through like a shoji screen.
All the light made for a very pleasant work space and it was simple and elegant.
And there were all these neat hook racks and things that slid back and forth the full length of the glass wall to use for hanging utensils or storing something, etc. And then opposite this long counter was an equally long working surface/island with built in appliances, drawers etc. Also very clean lines.
I have no idea how they are priced, but the home it was in was fairly high end. But it doesn't cost

They also have some models that are a bit warmer looking but still clean and modern.
