I am SO upset/angry and just p'od
The mixer was sold out from under me even after the seller promised it to me to be picked up tomorrow on my way in to work.

I guess it wasn't meant to be. I was too excited about this.

That'll teach me to have faith in things eh?

:(

kesha.

ps: thanks everyone for your input. You're a great bunch.

I'm off to sulk.

1. Oh That Just Sucks
Someone probably offered the jerk another $5, $10, $25 if they could come get it today.

On the bright side: this frees you to save up a little more and get a better one.

2. I am so sorry, Kesha.
That really sucks! I've never had anyone do that to me but anymore, people on craigslist can be pretty sucky, which is why I've stopped going there to look around even. The best thing is to just go immediately and check out whatever you're looking at and don't wait.

Keep your eyes peeled. They do come up every once in awhile.

3. Well *that* sucks!
Keep looking. They come available more frequently than you might imagine.

Sparkly's sister got one on eBay a while back .... I wanna say $80, but I'm not sure.

6. That sucks, but...
another will come along.

FWIW, I picked up an old, almost equally indestructible, Sunbeam mixer at one of the local thrift shops for 8 bucks-- it works great for most things and takes up a lot less room than Vikings, Kitchenaids... Missing the dough hooks, so any bread mixing or kneading I don't want to do by hand gets done in a Panasonic bread machine I got for 10 bucks at the same thrift shop.

7. When I am selling a "hot" item on CL I basically put people on a list.
Whoever makes a firm appointment to see the item and shows up and immediately agrees on price, gets it. If they no-show or reschedule or waffle about a decision, I call the next person on the waiting list and tell them to come on over and get it. And I let people know there is a list of people who want it so they don't dick around with me.

What was done to you was unfair and inappropriate.

8. Let me guess, it was either one of her friends
or somebody outbid you and you weren't given a chance to counter.

You're right, it sucks.

I once sold an old wood stove, "first person to show up with $150 gets it." I felt so sorry for the family that didn't stop at the ATM first, but they lost out to somebody who did.

Don't worry, though. The way the economy is going, there will be others and the color might match your kitchen a little better.

10. Well, and to be fair...

although it may suck to be in your position... anyone who can find a KitchenAid for $75 would be an absolute nut for not saying "don't do a darn thing, I'll be at your doorstep in 5 minutes".

So, basically, someone else beat you to it. And not that I wouldn't do the same thing. When it comes to things like KitchenAid appliances, friendships go out the window.

No offense, but I would race you to the door too.

12. Had the mixer been 'local' I would have gone immediately but
#1 it was closer to where I work 50 minutes from here hence the arrangement to pick it up next morning.
#2 I work six days a week Sunday was the only day I wasn't heading that way, I have a sick husband and a house to look after.

I understand and accept your point.
Just call me a nut.
