Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 07:53 PM by AZDemDist6
i was just brain dead and needed someone to help LOL
it was yummy and the kitchen is clean and the dishwasher ready to run
why is it that loading the dishwasher is no problem but emptying the darn thing makes me just drag my feet for days???
am I the only one that hates that chore? I'd rather scrub pots than empty the damned dishwasher :nuke:

5. The only dishwasher I've ever owned is the one on the |
|
ends of my arms, and hot water feels great on arthritic hands.
I did live in a place that had one. I only ever used the thing to sterilize the bottles for homebrew beer.
I've got a drainer in half a double sink and it's right under the dish cabinet. Once in a blue moon when I unload it completely to clean under it, it's a small thing to do.
Big dinner parties are handled by busing dirty dishes into basins and parking them in the bathtub until I'm ready to tackle them at the end of the party when the guests are gone. Really BIG parties are paper plates.
There's a wonderful movie called "El Norte." In it is a scene with a Guatemalan refugee confronting a washing machine with a zillion settings in her job as a maid. She quickly gives up and just washes all the clothes by hand, it's easier.
That's me. Sometimes low tech is just plain easier.

I saw it in a film class years ago in college.
Sometimes it really is easier to do tasks by hand than use a machine.

7. You brought back memories |
|
- something I learned from a doctor's wife whose husband was constantly calling home at the last minute to let her know he had guests coming over.
Always keep a rubber-maid dish pan in your sink so that when guests are arriving and your sink is full of dirty dishes, as well as your dishwasher, you simply move the pan to the oven. Just don't forget?

10. Absolutely don't forget!! |
|
Many years ago, we had our house for sale (by owner) and my husband was due at his new job in a month, so we couldn't be picky about appointments.
Well, a couple drove by, saw the sign and went to a nearby gas station and phoned, asking to come bye. As luck would have it, we were in the middle of dinner, which was sauerkraut for gawdsakes, but we said ok. We grabbed all the still full dishes and pots and shoved them in the oven, just in time to greet them at the door.
Evidently the odor of sauerkraut didn't phase them, because they made an offer on the house, on the spot. We were so excited, we packed up the kids and went out for pizza or something. By the time we got home and got the little ones to bed, we had completely forgotten the dishes in the oven.
The next day, I turned the oven on to pre-heat for something and went out in the yard with the kids. By the time I came in, we had broken dishes, with sauerkraut burned on and kids plastic glasses melted. LOL, we almost had to buy a new stove for the house we just sold. What a mess!!

8. I hate emptying the dishwasher also |
|
I wash the dishes before putting them in, not a problem, emptying it is a problem for me.
Actually I am getting lazy, any type of cleaning is a chore for me, a few years I never had a problem cleaning.

9. i notice it especially when I let things get cluttered |
|
the feng shui threads have made me so much better at keeping up on things it was amazing tonight when I really didn't want to deal with the kitchen, I "avoided" it my clearing off the two "hot spots" (clutter catchers) in the room and viola! i cleaned the kitchen and made myself a good dinner if you haven't checked out the feng shui threads, take a look. I lived in clutter for decades and it's a whole different story now :) http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=245&topic_id=4747&mesg_id=4747

11. I hate emptying it too |
|
After our meals we always say (funny how married couples get to saying the same schtick over and over and continue to think its funny) "the usual division of labor?" which means Sparkly does the dishes and I do the pots. Doing the dishes has emptying the dishwasher as part and parcel of the job.

13. that's part of the problem this week |

Mr Ketchup's allergies are acting up so he's not eating much at all
so I'm not cooking dinner for "us" and he's not helping with dishes
hence the "wreck" and my rant on Dishwashers

14. I'm very lucky -- my husband does the dishes! |
|
He started doing them in the morning (I was GOING to get around to them, really!) when he was waiting for his coffee to perk. He almost always gets up before me. After time, it just became his thing. I just try to keep my mouth shut when things aren't put away in the same place twice! ;)
It's my job to do the laundry. We do the grocery shopping together and have a cleaning service clean the house every other week. He usually does the yard but I do the taxes! :( He feeds the dogs in the morning and I feed them in the evening. All of this is a lot easier with any "empty nest" (not counting the four dogs.)

15. mine usually helps, but he's had horrible allergies all week |
|
the wind has been blowing to beat the band all week and I've been trying to pick up some of his load since he's feeling so crappy
so by the time I drop him off, go do the banking and mail and whatever else and get home I just am not motivated :(
thankfully he's feeling better today and we got out of work fairly early so things are back on track
I actually made us a nice dinner (he hasn't wanted to eat all week) and all my chores are done and it's only 4PM
hallelujah it's a miracle :bounce:
