1. How about some fresh fruit? |
|
If you can get it. One of my favs is chopped pineapple, watermelon, strawberries and grapes topped with a sauce made from yogurt (I just mix one-half lemon yogurt and one half strawberry yogurt) drizzled over the top of the fruit.
I'm not a big sweet lover, sorry I'm not more help.

3. Extra Simple, Extra Special Dessert |
|
Italians (at least the way I grew up) were never very fond of big, fancy desserts. Here's one my grandfather would serve after a full meal (a lighter meal got a heavier dessert).
Navel oranges
Slice 'em (across, so they're like pinwheels)
Sprinkle 'em with olive oil and pepper
Enjoy.
There is not a time in my memory when my family gets together for more than just one meal that these do not get served. And it is almost never planned. They just appear. And they're never left over.
Ever.

my guest is Italian too, his mom is an old time Italian mom. I am pushing the envelope with the pasta dish already. But it would have been fun serving the oranges :(
