More from the Dia de Reyes supper - the dessert!
She writes: "Then the Rosca de Reyes, oval sweetbread with candied fruit and cheese. If you get the piece with the "baby Jesus " in it you get to cook the tamales for Feb. 2nd. Candalemass day. Thank God it wasn't me )"

1. I love the recipe...

blablabla....
1 tbsp. orange flower water
2 tsp. orange zest
1 small plastic or porcelain doll

I've never placed a doll in my breads, but I think I'd go with the porcelain as first choice...

2. When I make Lithuanian piragas I just add vanilla
But the orange appeals to me a lot. I made mine with dried cherries this holiday season. We're on the last bit of the last loaf so I'm ready to try the next one with the orange flavors. I used to add some canned pumpkin meat to it but it made the loaf so big it lifted the lid on the machine. So I'm back to the basic recipe.

8. I think the plastic doll is common for Easter breads in NOLA, right?
I've seen them in specialty stores here.

3. What are those red and green strips? I've only seen candied fruit
whole or in chunks. It looks delicious. I'd love to try it.
