post your favorite smoothie recipe....
Mine is a mango-pear fruit smoothie:

Throw into a blender jar:

1 ripe pear, cored and chunked, skin left on
1 small ripe mango, peeled, seed removed, and chunked
1 tsp Stevia
1 generous scoop of whey protein powder
1 Tbsp of high lignan flaxseed oil
1 cup water

Puree for about 30 seconds until smooth, then add 5-6 ice cubes. Puree again. Serve immediately.

This is REALLY yummy. It's my current favorite breakfast soothie. Who else has great smoothie recipes?

2. a natural, no-calorie sweetener.
I don't like it much - I think it has a far more bitter aftertaste than saccharin - but apparently it's pretty popular.

http://www.stevia.net/

My recipe:

1/2 c yogurt (60 cal) - currently 365 fat-free vanilla
1/4 c fruit blend (25 cal) - currently: frozen peaches, mangos, strawberries, mandarin orange sections, pineapple (Schwan's)
1/4 c frozen yogurt (55 cal) - currently peach (Schwans)
1/2 c seltzer or sparking water.

Blend, drink.

3. nice....
Interestingly, I don't get any aftertaste from Stevia at all-- it just tastes sweet to me. Better than sugar, in fact.

I've become something of a smoothie fanatic lately-- an easy, good meal, and one of the only "meal in a glass" approaches that I find truely satisfying.

4. I seem to recall someone telling me that there are two forms of Stevia
And that one is processed more than the other, so that the bitter goes away.

However, I am a supertaster (especially since I stopped smoking and stopped living in a smoker's house) and often taste bitter things that no one else does. (and yet, I love grapefruit, and love the bitterness in it. Go figure.) So YMMV a lot.

10. A supertaster?!?
When I was 39 years old, I heard a story. I found out that there are people walking among us who have superpowers. These people are called Supertasters. To a Supertaster, bitter fruits taste far more bitter, and sweets far more sweet. Then, just a few months ago, I had the chance to meet a real, live Supertaster named John Lee.
And this is his true story:

Nothing tastes the same (nothing tastes the same)
To a Supertaster (Supertaster)
When he tastes a pear (tastes a pear)
It's like a hundred pears (it's like a million pears)
He's got superpowers (superpowers)
He is a Supertaster (Supertaster)
Every flavor explodes (explodes and explodes)
Explodes and explodes
John Lee Supertaster
Tastes more than we do
Everything has a flavor
Some flavors are too much
Can't shut his mouth (can't shut his mouth)
'Cause he's a Supertaster (Supertaster)
Though he looks like a man (talks like a man)
He is a Supertaster (Supertaster)
Can't drink coffee or beer (coffee or beer)
'Cause he's a Supertaster (Supertaster)
Loves ice cream and pie (ice cream and pie)
He is a Supertaster
John Lee Supertaster
Tastes more than we know
Everything has a flavor
Some flavors must go

5. my favorite breakfast smoothie...
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 08:32 PM by BuddhaGirl
I have this almost every morning:

8 oz almond milk

small handful of each:
frozen strawberries
frozen blueberries
frozen peaches

1 scoop of vanilla flavored whey protein powder (I like Jarrow, 'cause it's sweeter)

Blend until smooth. Sometimes I add a little vanilla or almond extract.

Easy, healthy, and delicious! :-)

6. It's all I can do to dump a little apple juice into a blender
dump in some soy protein, throw in a banana (if I have one) and remember to put the lid on before I hit the switch.

Did I mention that I'm NOT a morning person? Did I mention that I'm struggling with getting used to being awake during the day after working 12 hour night shifts for 18 years?

9. I use whey, don't know anything about the others....
IMO, the added protein and flaxseed oil are what make my smoothies satisfying as meals.
