Network slowdown
Hi everyone. I'm copying this from a post my husband made on another board. No one has answered him over there and he doesn't have enough posts to start a topic on here. Thanks everyone!

Could anyone suggest to me the best way to find problem connections on my home network. I'm pretty sure I have some bad wiring connections causing some cross talk and slowing things down. There are so many testers out there I have no idea what to get, and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on something I will rarely use. TIA

1. More details please?
What sort of wiring?
Can you run point-to-point patches with good wire to test?

2. We are using cat5e
and running point to point patches would involve making a pretty long run, more then the amount of wire I have left. This is why I'm thinking of buying a tester.

3. Don't know much about testers.
You need to be able to run patches or use a tester to do fault
isolation, as far as I can see. I suppose you could also disconnect
different wires at the hub and see if things improve?

4. Your best bet for something like that
might be to find a small cabling company and have them come out with their FLUKE tester. If it's a simple problem they could probably even fix it for you and all you would pay for is an hour's labor.
