Question about upgrading Firefox 0.9.1 to ver 1.0 |
|
Do I have to uninstall the earlier version before running the setup program to install ver 1.0, or can I just install 1.0 on top of the earlier version? (This is on a PC with Windows XP).

It's safer that way. Everything before 1.0 was a beta, and in general it's not a good idea to "upgrade" betas.
That said, since, I think, .8, the issue of installing over the top of old versions hasn't been quite the problem it was at one time. However, if you're going to have a problem, that could be the cause of it.
It's no big deal to do the uninstall. Your profile won't be deleted, so all your personal settings, bookmarks, etc. will be the same. You'll have to update your extensions and themes anyway.

Actually I didn't see it before upgrading to 1.0 so didn't backup my profile as recommended. However after the upgrade everything appeared to work just fine and my history and bookmarks etc. were all there.
