That $500 MAC mini is HOT!
For me: Coleco Adam - Commodore 128 - DOS - Windows - Linux...

But this new MAC Mini is *HOT*!

Thinking about picking one up for the living room...

6 1/2" square, 3 lbs. with a DVD burner option - what's not to like?

1. I saw one tonight. It looks really well done.
I played a bit of Nanosaur 2 on to see how it does with heavy duty graphic. Not bad at all.

Get more RAM. Have them install it at the time of purchase.

2. I'm ecstatic about the Mini--and I'm not even buying one!

I have a seven-year old G3 Macintosh with 233 processor running OS9 that's so wimpy it can't run my new printer/scanner. :argh: I bought the printer, along with a USB card, because I'm upgrading to OSX which doesn't work with serial ports or internal floppy drives.

I did the math, and for the cost of a Mini equipped for my needs, I can add a G4 1000 processor card, a Super drive, a RAM chip, and an OEM version of OSX. If I got the Mini, I would also have to add a new keyboard, mouse and floppy drive. By upgrading, I can use the keyboard and mouse I have without using a USB port, switch to OS9 whenever I needed to use the floppy drive, AND come out at least $150 ahead!

To me, the great thing about the Mini (and their new line of laptops) is that they run on G4 technology. I thought that with the introduction of their G5 computers, Apple would begin to stop supporting the G4 (the way they have with OS9, LOL!). If the Mini hits its real target audience (disgruntled or intrigued PC-ers like you folks), then the G4 architecture is here to stay, making my upgrade an even smarter investment!

4. When you buy it, order more RAM
the 256 is not enough in my opinion.

7. Alfredo is absolutely right--delay the purchase if you must

These days, no one should be buying a Mac of ANY kind with less than 512K RAM. I just ordered a 256K RAM chip to add to the 416K I have (substituting it for my 32K chip will give me a total of 640).

More important, I was going to order a 500Hz G4 processor card to upgrade my 233Hz G3. But since I'm also planning to add Panther, I realized it might be worth the extra time and money to get a 1GB card. It hasn't been delivered, and I'm already not regretting it!

8. I am running 640 on my
dual 450. I wouldn't settle for less than 512.
