Solaris is a nice system from what I've seen. It's not really made for home desktop users, though.

They do have a desktop version but it's seldom used and gets very little development time from Sun.
If you want to go with a *nix (Solaris is the Sun version of UNIX) operating system, there are many Linux distros that will provide you the same stability with a lot more features, since most Linux desktops are really designed to be home user friendly.

I have an xp system and have nothing loading at startup except for antivirus and comparing this xp to ubuntu it is much faster in every thing I do, which is mostly just the web and I am surprised at that too. ahh but the quest for prefection has led me down some mighty strange paths over the years.

It's pretty much like all the other distros you either like it or not. I loaded a while back it got the job done what else can i say?
