Another way to block ads in Firefox. |
|
Go to THIS PAGE and copy and paste the code to your userContent.css file. How to locate and edit Configuration Files (userContent.css, userChrome.css, user.js) in FirefoxI did this a couple days ago, and so far it seems to be working even better than Adblock! Hope this helps.

As you know, extensions eat up memory and so the fewer you have, the better. And therefore this code is much better than the AdBlock extension.
I've been using it for about 4 or 5 months now, with heavy browsing, and the *only* problem I noticed was that I couldn't see the login for Amazon Advantage Associates. This was easily fixed by adding this line to the end of the code:
a:link img { display: inline !important; }

i thought the extensions blocked ads BEFORE they were downloaded to your machine and that using a .css file would be applied AFTER the download already occurred but before the ad could be presented in the browser ...
first, is this correct?
and second, if it is correct, is using the .css actually faster than using the extension?

I knew that the more extensions I used, the slower my browser got.
However, thanks to your questions, it does seem that the CSS method only hides the ads. Which was good for when I didn't have so much memory. But now I do....
It was unclear from certain discussions at the Mozilla.org forums whether AdBlock also hid the ads like CSS, as opposed to not even downloading them in the first place. Do you know for sure?
However, what was clear was that the best way to not even download ads to begin with is to use an ad-blocking hosts file. I'll be researching that this week.
