The latest Firefox update has me stuck in an infinite loop.
It keeps trying to install an update, gets part way through, then a window pops up saying it can't install, and I should close all instances of the browser before trying again. It gives no cancel option, merely an OK button, which when clicked starts the cycle over again. I've even gone into Task Manager and killed off all firefox.exe instances, but it makes no difference.

I would recommend turning off auto updates within Firefox until this issue is addressed.

Any solutions?

1. heh
You just reminded me, Apple's HQ is located at 1 Infinte Loop, Sunnyvale.

I have this problem with Windows XP installing updtaes to programs I no longer have.
How do I turn off the obsessive update thing?

2. If youy're talking about Windoze Update, it's easy
Right click on the desktop's My Computer icon, then go to the Properties menu. Automatic Updates is a tab within the box that will pop up.

You can also do it via the Control Panel, but where's the fun in that?

3. Okay, my own half-assed solution
that seems to have worked, at least in the short run.

I simply uninstalled Firefox (after managing to kill off multiple instances within Task Manager) and after the reboot I just reinstalled it using the latest downloadable package. Surprise, surprise, upon reinstallation it kept all my settings, AND all my add-ons were still in place! (And it started normally, with no problems.)

Try THAT, Microshit. No freakin' wonder everybody's switching away from IE...

4. Glad you figured out a solution ...

I wasn't able to reproduce the problem and couldn't find anything about it on the forums, so I was clueless.

I'm prejudiced against auto-update features, and this is one reason why.
