Computer won't boot up with external USB hard drive connected |
|
I have a new Western Digital 1TB external My Book hard drive. Drive works like a dream....until I turn off the computer and restart it....computer hangs on the splash screen...won't even get to the Windows loading screen. If I boot up with it NOT attached to the USB it works fine. Also, HD USB is attched to a 4 port USB hub and that is plugged into the computer. Any ideas why I'm having this problem? Thanks.

2. I'm somewhat computer savvy.... |
|
...but I'm not sure I know how to do that. Is it simple or should I just google it to find more detailed information?

the first step is to find your motherboard model. Many time this is displayed on bootup, or may come with the info sent with your PC when you bought it. HP has bios updates available for download simply by doing a search on the model--I think dell does as well.
who did you get your PC from, and what model is it?

4. Had the same problem once with a Zip drive |
|
On reboot the computer kept trying to boot from the Zip disk and hung unless the disk was ejected. As I recall I had to change a bios setting so that it would not boot from a disk drive and after that everything was OK

5. Easy peasy. Change your boot order. |
|
It seems to be looking for the USB as the first bootable before the hard disk.
