I am running Windows Vista and I have a small icon in the tray that doesn't seem to have any function. It is a small number "9" in a box that looks like it is hanging from a pin. It does not respond to either left or right mouse clicks. I suppose I will have to go to task manager and start killing processes. I thought I would see if someone had a ready answer.

indication if you just hover the mouse? I run XP, but can go to toolbar properties > customize for a list of all the possibilities.

formerly from sysinternals, now acquired by Microsoft. It is still free. You may be able to find the matching Icon in the process list.

3. It was LockStatusTray.exe by Logitech |

I found it with Process Explorer. Thanks for the tip. I uninstalled it and the icon is gone. Logictech is bad for installing mal ware like this. Real Networks is another abuser.
