Well my McAfee subscription expired and I'd rather not pay for another one so does anyone know of any good free anti virus that is on par with McAfee?

1. Here are two
free anti virus programs that are great.
Avast

AVG

3. After whatever anti virus you chose is loaded and updated,
run a full scan in Safe Mode. All hard drives.

BTY I use Avast, AVG and UBUNTU. I figure at least one computer should get me to the Internet for help.

7. Should you always run a scan in safe mode? I have done it a
few times (trying to troubleshoot something) but I usually just update and then run. Does the safe mode allow the business end of AVG get deeper into the innards of this gizmo?

Thanks

2. I run malwarebytes too.
It helped get rid of a pesky problem a few months ago that AVG missed. Now I run it every week or two just to be sure.

5. The free version of Malwarebytes does not offer active protection.

That said, the scanner is really good.

4. I've been using Avira anti-virus and like it a lot... active protection and scanner. {EOM}

6. I'm pleased since switching from AVG to Avira also.
AVG was getting too heavy and buggy. I like 'em lite.
