RoboForm
I have a laptop and installed RoboForm. The Robo tool bar went missing a few days ago and I can't find anything but all the logins and accounts are here: C:\Users\madmax\Documents\Computer Info\My RoboForm Data\Default Profile
when I clicked on this and tried to get it to install the tool bar and data it says "Adobe reader could not open file type because it was either damaged or not supported by file type'. I can't find the exe. file either. Last night I d/l the program from the web thinking that it would take the Default files and fix the problem but, no go and still no tool bar. Seems like that damn tool bar is the entire brain of Robo.

Found this in NotePad 'RoboForm Data'

******
"This folder contains your Identities and Pass Cards.

Identity is a file that has *.RFT extension.

Pass Card is a file that has *.RFP extension.

If you need to back up Identities and Pass Cards
backup all files in this folder.

If you need to restore Identities and Pass Cards
copy backed up files to this folder and restart RoboForm."
*****

But there is nothing there just the RFP extension.

There is so much info I need in Robo - my son set it up for me when he came to visit. So I really don't even know where the hell to start. Is there anyway I can get this tool bar and all the info in Robo back? Or am I screwed?

I use Robo a lot now to buy stuff online and pay my bills. I think I have a touch of Chemo brain added to stupidity and simple things just become so hard.

I hired a tutor but, she's punking out on me. Wanted 50 an hr. but, I told her I could only afford 20 so after 2 hours today she sent me email. She saw my bookcase with all my left wing books 'Hubris', The Hunting of the President' etc. - she got a little miffed. Now I have to hide my books? :-(

Thanks for any help.

I found a hardcopy of the Order ID and from my desktop that I've had for 2 years. There were other bits and pieces of info and I magnaged to get the tool bar.

Now I just need to get all the data into Robo from the default. None of the info that was in Robo before is there now. But, it's a start.

How can I get that default list into Robo?

Edited on Sat Mar-21-09 01:40 AM by Why Syzygy
Your son entered all your data into Robo, and now it's missing?
or
You can't find the toolbar when you open MSN Exp?

What "Order ID" .. is that information you need to complete a form?

edit: also let me verify that you are not using web tv?

4. Yes
My son entered it all and I was nervous about that and had all the passwords changed. He had copied all the info into a usb drive so, I got a little paranoid.

Not using webtv. The order ID I assume like a key code. I bought the pro version for 30. a few years back but, never really used it for important stuff like billpay.

I've gotten the tool bar back but, that default list that had all the data is now gone. Shit!!

So do you need the key code now?

I don't use Robo, but I can usually find information I need for just about anything.

There are separate "profiles" for Robo, right?

Do you see any profile, or does it look like a new install?

Do you have your passwords and stuff in a text file?

Or do you know them and can repopulate Robo by hand?

8. Looks like a new install
The password won't work. Robo is a messy little thing when it comes to passwords. They make it difficult to change passwords. Guess it's a 'feature' they tout about being safe. I think I'm going to somehow start all over entering every account again. I don't know where to begin but, it doesn't look like I have another choice.

Is it a text file? .. You have the usb drive, right? Flash drive or thumb drive is what it is usually called.

12. It will be time consuming,
Edited on Sat Mar-21-09 02:04 AM by Why Syzygy
especially since you changed all the passwords right before you set up Robo. But not impossible.
The sites will reset them via their email verification . yada yada. I hate that. I never could sign into my electric bill account more than once using any one user name because of all the restrictions they put on how many numbers, etc.

Look around for anything in Robo or MSN that has an option to "Import" password file, or something like that.

14. What if I did a system restore
Would that get the 'old' Robo back with all the data. I was having trouble with my printer not printing from the laptop so I just had a guy over to fix that. Will I mess that up with sys restore?

Edited on Sat Mar-21-09 02:09 AM by Why Syzygy
I would try as much as possible before resorting to that. You could check the time on the last restore point to see if it was backed up after the printer was fixed.

Also, are you absolutely sure the usb drive has been wiped?

Edited on Sat Mar-21-09 02:20 AM by madmax
I was really pissed about that. We barely speak now. I was in the hospital for 3 days and he had a field day in my file cabinet, too. When I had the printer fixed I had the tech, show me how to change the password for my computer so that my son couldn't get into it remotely. He told me how to set up a really good password. That also pissed my kid off. And yes, I don't trust him. Worse comes to worse - I'll call that tech guy again and see if he can get the info back. He charges 95.00 an hr. ACK!!! but, it's a last resort.

I have my doubts that system restore would repopulate Robo. I just don't know for sure.
Is it the master password that you've forgotten?
I was reading the faq >
http://www.roboform.com/faq.html#security

If there's any way I can help ...

Do you mind if I ask how your found your tutor and the tech guy? Were they advertising or did someone refer them? I might be interested in doing a little side work and wonder how to find clients.

20. You're a gem
I can go thru my emails and get a lot of info because I went green and instead of paper statements I get emails. So that's a little help. And the bank has some info. I'll get it done but, it's soooo time consuming and my brain ain't up to snuff yet.

And the USB drive he wiped it out and I have it - it's empty. He became very indignant which made me even more suspicious.

21. I found the tutor
online. Nice thing is she lives only 2 miles. But, I think she's a Republican because she grunted a lot when she saw hundreds of Obama pics. LOL I making a photo album of Obama's life from childhood to 44th President.

The tech guy has his own business he doesn't advertise all word of mouth. He's great. Oh, the tutor - cash only. In this economy cash is king.

If I were you put an ad for computer tutoring. You might be surprised. Must be a lot of people out there like me that don't want to know evey single thing about each program. We want a simple way to get ride of mountains of paperwork and make life easier.

Was it craigslist.org where you found her?

was www.care.com I received 3 responses. Two came after I had contacted and make an appt. with her. A lot of the posts are for live in caretakers. But, there were others, too. My tech guy said I should look on Craigslist for a tutor but, I didn't see any. That may be a good place for you to post and ad. Good luck - give it a shot. Oh, and it cost me 25.00 to join and post to those that fit what I was looking for. I don't know if she had to pay for posting, too.

23. A couple of other things come to mind.
Since you have a file that indicates it may have your information saved, you can check with Robo's support or your tech guy. There may also be a function to "Import" that file into Robo.

Since you installed the free download, I assume it was the free version, you may need to register with your key code again. If that's the case, once you re-register, perhaps it would unlock that file.

I read about the encryption Robo uses, and it should be okay to go ahead and use the backup feature and save it to the usb drive, once the issue is resolved. Put it in a safe location where you CAN find it. But, don't overly concern yourself that someone might be able to hack it. It appears that is almost certainly not achievable.

I did it!!!!! Took all night and I'm a wreck but, I found that default list - again and started playing around with that. At the top in the tool bar it said Passcard so I clicked on that and there was 'copy home' so I clicked on that and a box pops up with all the info for say utility bill - it put it in Robo and then I clicked save. WOW!!! They're all back! Only thing I have to do is have the husband call the bank for a site key confirmation - I'm hearing impaired too, that's why I can't call support for any program for anything. LOL 'if it ain't one thing it's another' Gilda Radner

I want to thank you for being so kind and helping me out. I did check out the Robo Form manual, and FAQ. But, my mind is so fried. Since March 3rd this has been the month from hell - everyday!!

You're a great person, figures you're a Democrat :) :bounce: :toast:

Go for the tutoring thing and get cash only. You would be great, you have patience. and thank you!
