What is a "smart card." I am bidding of Ebay on a DishTV 301 receiver and

the description says it comes without a smart card. Will I really need one? I don't think my old receiver has one.

1. Smart card is used by

network to communicate programing info to your receiver.
It is part of the package when you sign up.

2. I'm Not Familiar With Echostars...

equipment but I'm 95% sure they use smart cards in all of their receivers. If you are going to keep using your current receiver you will need the card that comes with your newer unit. If your not there is probably a procedure (accessed through a menu) that will transfer your old card to the new box.
