Palm or PocketPC?
My ipaq 3955 is dead. Keeps freezing periodically and I must soft-reset. But no apps are running. I did replace the battery. The bugger has a couple of stuck/dead pixels anyway...

As a replacement device, would you get a PocketPC-based unit or Palm-based?

WHy or why not?

1. Depends what you use it for.
If you need to edit MS docs, then get a Pocket PC, but for general use I prefer a older B&W Palms for the longer battery life, but I'm kind of a luddite.

3. I would get a Palm, unless you absolutely need the Pocket PC.
I have an older Palm M500 that I use all the time for Geocaching. There is a great Palm application called Cachemate that holds all the info I need.

If I drop mine crashing through the woods in search of a Geocache, I'm only out $39.00 to replace it.

Palm PDAs are less expensive than Pocket PC. Also . . . they aren't Micro$oft.

4. I got a Palm Zire 72 a couple of weeks ago
for about $250. Came with Docs to Go, so I can save and edit Excel and Word documents. Has a neat little built in camera and a voice recorder. It's not going to turn you in to a photographer, but I found it neat enough to do EBay listings and capture a photo of something I need to record. It's even supposed to be able to record video with an expansion card - haven't tried that yet. Also plays MP3s.

I like it a lot. I don't know if they are still offering but Palm was offering $50 certificate towards purchase of anything from their site if you send in your old PDA.

5. By any chance are you accessing DU through your ipaq?
Because I was having the same problem with my ipaq 3955 and it was after they started running ads on DU. I disabled the icons and now my ipaq is running fine. Just something to consider since I was having the exact same problem.
