1. I think any modem you buy is v92 now. The older version |
|
was v90. V92 is faster and offers modem on hold function. It should load along with the driver.
With modem on hold you are notified by a pop up when someone is calling. You can then choose to take the call or ignore it and go on browsing. To use this function you need call waiting from your phone company.
The modems in HP computers have the MOH function disabled at the factory. So if you want this functionality you have to buy another modem and install it. Furthermore, the tech support people don't know this so they'll run you around trying to fix something that can't be fixed. Crazy!
Sorry. Horror story of my own. I'll never buy another HP computer.

2. Nothing particular for v92 |
|
But you might want to readjust your MTU to 576 for better throughput. I used to do it back in the day and it made a noticable difference. http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/280/http://www.mailsbroadcast.com/useful.sites/maxmtu.htm(And don't forget to reset it to 1500 if you return to cable or 14XX if you go with PPPOE over DSL)
