Please recommend a cooling product for an Inspiron 5100
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 04:00 AM by strategery blunder
I have had the same problem with my laptop that this person is having for several months. For the last few months, I have been able to get around it with a can of compressed air and some slight restraint in heavy computer usage, such as games. About six months ago, I figured I'd get one of those trays with a bunch of cooling fans on the bottom to mount on the bottom of my computer to alleviate those problems.

Once upon a time, I had a bookmarked thread on DU about what was worth it and what wasn't but that bookmark has disappeared (yes, I have clicked the "see older bookmarks" link). So I would like a reminder now that I actually have the money to get this.

Any help is much appreciated.:)

4. Thanks
It works like a charm.

*gets compressed air*

Though I haven't noticed the USB ports some other poster mentioned, but I haven't really looked for them either.

2. I have an Inspiron 5100 and have been using the laptop cooler mentioned in
the link provided by landdaddy for about a year. The cooler and a good cleaning with compressed air about once a week allow me to run my computer for hours with no problems. THe 4 USB ports on the cooler work wonderfully and are an added bonus!

3. Just saw your thread. I got a chill pad for my laptop.
It's great! It connects to your laptop port and runs on batteries.

No more heat problems!

I got mine at Circuit City. About $20, but it was on sale.

5. Thanks For Posting The Egg Site!
I just ordered one for my Inspiron. It has been getting very hot and I was trying to make something do with an upside down bamboo tray, but it was not doing that great, lol. Looks like it is going to be real kewl! I have a 3 port USB port for my laptop and am hoping all will "fit" right so I can use the fan tray as well as plug in other things if neccessary.

Just an aside: I named my laptop "Harpo" because (most of you are too young to know about this) when the Marx Brothers used to make movies their brother, Harpo, who was the the silent one, would wear this big long trench coat. From out of that coat, he would pull the most amazing things ~ alot of them too big for the coat to really hold ~ bubbling pots of soup, fish swimming in a fish bowl, pole lamps, you name it. Well a laptop is much the same way, a lot of amazing things come out of that little box!

Cat In Seattle <----geek with a lot to learn.
