I can't reboot my computer without going into safe mode... |
|
and it can take hours to get into safe mode on this computer.
What do I need to do to be able to reboot normally?

1. If you have Win XP and the OS on disk do this |
|
First, go into the BIOS and set the first boot device to be CDROM and save the changes. Then restart with your OS disk in the CD drive. Now follow the prompts, press spacebar to load Windows XP. Windows will go through what loading drivers, system files, etc from the cd, then into the Windows Setup Window. From there, you get three options: 1. Install Windows XP. 2. Repair XP through using the Recovery Console, and finally 3. Press F3 to escape from Windows XP. Selected 2 for the Recovery Console mode. After it loaded, you will be in a DOS type enviroment. Now two commands first, I type chkdsk and press enter. Then, when you return to the prompt type fixmbr and press enter which should repair the master boot record.
