Getting rid of drop down box in Firefox. |
|
Don't know if I'm going to be able to explain this clearly enough to make any sense. Gonna try, though, because the drop-down window is really irritating and I have no idea how to get rid of it.
Whenever I start to type something, whether a log-in, search box or a message box, a window drops down with a list of things I've typed previously that start the same as what I'm currently entering. The only way to make it disappear is to keep typing until it goes beyond or differs from what's on the ever-lengthening list.
Have no idea what initially triggered this drop-down. Possibly the new Firefox? Is it a feature that can be turned off?
Does anyone know what I'm talking about - and how to get rid of it?
Thanks.

A lot of people like this, but I'm with you. It irritates me.
You can prevent it from happening by going to the options, Privacy > Saved Form Information and disabling this. While you're there, clear it. When you're done, FF won't save any of that information, so the box won't appear.
Also be aware this prevents FF from saving information you've entered in web forms so that if you have a type of form you fill out a lot, you'll have to do it manually each time. Again, this is something a lot of people like for the convenience, but it is an incredible security risk because it ends up saving things like your SS#, credit card numbers, etc. If anyone should gain access to your computer with this feature enabled, you could be hosed.

Your directions did the trick. *Poof* it's gone.
So glad you understood what I was talking about. Had no idea what it was, why it was happening, or how to word the cry for help.
Thank you for taking the time to explain it. That ever expanding drop-down list will definitely not be missed.
