Power Mac upgrade questions.
I have a couple of old Mac Power PC's the Power Mac 5500/250 to be exact. Currently running Mac OS8 with netscape 3 :(

The machine seems to load up web pages pretty well and pretty quickly (aside from the compatability problems of NetScape 3 and modern webpages) and I'm thinking it wouldn't be a bad machine for e-mail and some browsing.

So... I want to upgrade it. But I know nothing about Apples.

How can I go about upgrading the software? All I can find are .bin files, but after they are downloaded how can I install? I tried stuffit... nothing. Any sort of self extracting files out there? What software would be best?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance :)

I'm relatively new to Apple, so I can't be of much help, but I'd bet someone in the Mac forum could help you. Good luck!

3. You will need a binary extractor. Wish I could remember
the name of the application. I think it is MacBinary II. http://www.wm.edu/it/index.php?id=4058

Add RAM. I think you will have to install them in pairs.

Look for a local Mac User Group to see what they may have in their parts bins.

Hope the link works. If not you might be able to find it at other university sites.
