Function Key problem?

I use Microsoft Works. The easy text function uses F3.

I got a new footpedal so I don't have to use the mouse
to start/stop my audio player while I'm working.
(I transcribe stuff.)

Well, the audio player for the foot controller wants to
use F3 to slow down the audio speed.

I'm lost without my easy text macros. How do I tell one
program or the other to quit it -- change the function
key in either program?

Thanks.
