I had to reformat my daughter's computer yesterday. I purchased a new printer/scanner/copier. For some reason (and I have spent the best part of the day) the printer won't load. So I finally get the bright idea to look at the printer settings on my computer. Her computer doesn't show a virtual USB port to connect the printer to. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance.

Look in Control Panel - Printers to see if the printer is listed. If it isn't, assuming you are using xp, restart the computer with the printer plugged into a USB port and the printer turned on. XP should detect the printer and install it. If the printer IS listed then right click on it, go to Properties and test it. If it doesn't work then delete the printer and try what I outlined in the beginning of this paragraph.
If you are using windows 98 then you will probably have to install the driver for the printer that comes with it. If there is none, go to the printer company site and download and install the latest driver.
