Ok guys, here's one for you all.
Got my computer back from the shop three days ago. Every thing works fine...except that I cannot get to a few web sites that I used to go to. Called them up and they're up and running fine. I made few setting changes that they recommeded and that didn't help. I've tried every setting adj that I know of and still can't get to those sites. I even reinstalled my IE and to no avail. Any one know of any other settings, tricks or adjustment that might help, before I call the "not too available computer geek" at the repair shop? Thanks

1. you might check your browser's security settings ...
in IE, click Tools/Internet Options ... then click the security tab ... if the "internet" security level is set to high, try moving it down to medium ... also, if it's just these 3 sites, click on trusted sites and then click the sites button and add the problem sites to the list ...

there could be a firewall problem that is blocking access to these sites (or sites in their path back to you) but it seems unlikely if you were able to access them just a few days ago ...

you might try contacting your isp for some guidance ...

not sure these tips will solve the problem but at least it's a place to start ...

2. You might also consider a different browser.
Try Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org). It's written to be very similar to IE in look & feel, plus it's immune to almost all adware/spyware/hijackers AND it's free.

4. I would also suggest using a different browser. I love Opera.
I have used the Opera browser for more than two years and my old computer works great with it. It is a much smaller download than Firefox, in case you are on dialup like I am.

It also has a great "Community" with very helpful Forums . . . if you ever want to take a break from DU.

5. It's usually scripts or cookies
allow cookies on those sites, then cookies, then Active X, then Java. Especially if it just doesn't load and says "done" or "done with errors" on the status bar.
