Spaxe spyware is driving me crazy! Any help out there? |
|
Sorry to come to this group for the first time with a desperate plea for help, but this morning I apparently contracted the SPAXE spyware program.
It pretends to be a microsoft security feature and displays about every 30 seconds a ballon that says, "
"Your computer is infected! Windows has detected spyware infection..." and some other stuff.
Apparently this is a spyware company that hijacks your system, pretends you have a spyware problem -- well it actually creates a spyware problem -- and then tries to get you to purchase a fix from them.
I have done a couple of searches on this but the McAfee and Symantac websites basically say run their programs or has incomprehensible instructions for manual removal using the regedit, which I tried, but none of the files were actually there.
I ran McAffee anti spyware, and it did not pick up this sypware. I feel completely stuck.
Anyone else have this problem and was able to fix it? I'm desperate!

1. Please go here and follow the instructions |

http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal_and_Prevention:_IntroductionThey will help you for free but first they will have you go through a number of steps to clean your computer and then you will post and HJT log at their site. It's a great site.

2. I don't think it was Spaxe or Spyaxe |
|
Thanks for your replies and PMs. I wasted about 8 hours over the weekend on trying to get rid of this, but eventually, I updated by McAfee spyware software, and it got rid of it. It mimicked Spyaxe, but was somewhat different.
For everyone's info, I will post more details, but right now, I am at work and don't have access to the McAfee log, which I will copy and paste here.
