Setting up my Outlook Express. I'm using the setup wizard, and don't
know what information to put in the blanks.

1. I use Juno as my internet carrier or whatever you call it.

2. I use Yahoo to actually get my mail.

When I get to the E-Mail Server Screen, I'm sure I put POP3 in the first space. The next space asks: Outgoing mail Server. I don't know what to put.

The next screen says: Internet Mail Logon.
The first space asks for the Account Name and defaults to patricia92243. It then asks for a password. I'm not sure what it is talking about. If I have a account name and password, where would I find them?

I'm doing something wrong and don't know what to do that is right.

Any help on this will be GREATLY appreciated, and if I need to supply more info, just let me know. I'm about to die of frustration.

1. I'm not an expert, but this is what I have:
My E-Mail account is with xxxx.com, and this is how my Outlook Express is configure:

Incoming Mail(POP3) mail.xxxx.com

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) smtp.xxxx.com

Incoming Mail Server whatever the name you use as your name in your E-Mail address

I don't enter my password, just leave blank.

I do have one suggestion:
If you are just setting up your OutLook Express, use Thunderbird instead.
You can download it FREE here:

Free Thunderbird

The security is better and about the same degree of difficulty in setting up.

While you are there you can link to FireFox and get a free browser that is BETTER than IE.

2. yahoo mail ...
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 09:37 PM by welshTerrier2
if you're not a paid yahoo subscriber, i.e. you have a free Yahoo email account, i don't believe you can use outlook express to read your email ... yahoo used to provide a pop3 service but i believe they discontinued the service for their free email accounts about a year or two ago ...

if you have a free yahoo email account, you can read your email in the browser but can't interface your yahoo email with outlook express ... if you are a paid yahoo subscriber, you should research the pop3 settings to use on yahoo ... do a search for pop3 on yahoo ...

hope this helps ...

3. When you signed up with Juno as your ISP..
you gave them an 'account name'. This is not (usually) your actual billing name, but a nickname like "patricia92243" which you used above. Since you can sign onto the internet to use a browser, you already 'told' the computer your internet name and password. That's why OE is filling in your nickname automatically. The password would be the same as the one you used to set up your internet connection.

When you set up a new Outlook Express account,it first asks for a
display name, which is the name that you want people to see when they get an email from you. It can be any name you want.

Next, it asks for your email address, which would be your-account-name@ juno.com (Ignore the hyphens: the name should be the same one you use to sign onto the net.)

You are correct that you are using a pop3 server.
Your incoming mail server s/b "pop.juno.com".
Your outgoing mail server is "smtp.juno.com"

On that same page, it will ask you for your account name, which I described above. Your password will be the one you use to sign onto the internet. If you click the 'save password' button before you type it in, you won't need to retype it when you access your mail.

If you do not remember your juno account password, call your ISP and they will reset it for you.

Unfortunately, I think that OE only will check Hotmail accounts, which are ones in the HTTP category (i.e. email accounts you sign onto with a web browser). I believe that is because MS owns hotmail :). It works fine with hotmail accounts.
