Help!! My house is infested with ticks |
|
I have never had a problem with fleas or ticks. A few months ago a watched a neighbor's dog for a week. While he was here, I found a few ticks on him so I picked them off and didn't think too much about it. Last month, I started noticing funning little brown spots on the tile floors so I checked my dogs. All three had several ticks on them so I called the vet, bathed them and got them on Frontline. That was three weeks ago and I am still finding ticks in my house and on my dogs. My vet suggested flea collars but I really hate to put chemicals on my dogs or in my house. Luckily, these ticks are common brown dog ticks that don't carry Lyme disease.
Since we found the ticks, I have been washing the dog's bedding several times a week. The dogs sleep in our beds so I wash our linens in hot water often too. Most of my house is tile and I vacuum it daily, I also vacuum the two rooms that are carpeted and have steam cleaned the carpet at least once a week. Every time, I think I am making progress, another bunch of ticks reaches maturity and I start seeing them on the tile and the dogs.
My dogs are indoor dogs and we have changed the place where we had been letting them out in case the ticks have established themselves in our yard. I have also made arrangements to have our yard sprayed. Those ticks that do attach to the dogs die and we check the dogs daily and remove the ticks we find.
Is there anything else we can do beside douse the dogs with chemicals and bomb the house. I am asthmatic and allergic to pesticides so I want to avoid that if at all possible.
TIA

1. I feel so bad for you...... |
|
I am dealing with a major flea invasion at a client's house this week. It's not exactly the same but here are a few things I learned.
Make sure you spray the inside of your vacuum before and after you use it. Even if you don't use a spray, buy lots of bags for it and throw them away each time you use it (outside in a garbage can).
Make sure that the Frontline you are using is "Plus" not "Top Spot" it has a contraceptive in it so the bugs that get to your dogs can't have little bugs.
Good luck, you are not alone.

2. Can you use a tick bomb? |
|
I'm familiar with flea bombs and have used in my house. Is a tick bomb available?
