Need advice about pets and termite control services

We recently bought an old farmhouse, and are concerned about protecting it from termites. As of now it's termite-free, and our home inspector found no evidence of previous damage, but we want to make sure it stays that way. My husband thinks we should sign up with a pest control service where they will come on a regular basis and do whatever it is they do. However, I am worried that some of the methods these services use might be harmful to my pets (one dog and two indoor-only cats.)

Does anyone have any advice about this? Is it possible to have these services done without putting my pets' health in danger? Are there any companies that are better to use than others?
