Cats, fleas, bug bombs, baths, cold.
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 07:44 PM by kaitykaity
My poor little drowned rat of a kitty.

It's cold here now (40s at night) and so the fleas have
all decided to come inside to play. My poor kitty
got infested while I wasn't paying attention.

So I gave her a flea bath. Didn't work. Bought her a fancy
flea collar and gave her another bath. Still didn't work.

So finally here I am, I just bug bombed the place. To do the
bug bomb I had to blow out the pilot light on my furnace
and now I can't get it lit again, and I had to give my
kitty another bath to kill the critters still on her.

Poor kitty -- all wet, no heat. I swiss rolled her into
an afghan and laid her on a shelf in my office. She's mewled
at me a couple of times, but doesn't seem to be fighting
the warm little womb I made for her.

Gawd, what a mess.

1. Get some Frontline.
Your vet has it. It is applied topically between the shoulder blades. It breaks the breeding cycle of the fleas. It works.

2. I thought the bug bomb was my last line of defense.
Do you know if Petco or PETsMART has this as well?
I may do this anyway just to be on the safe side.

She has not left the blanket yet. (It's been almost
a full day since I wrapped her up in it. She's happy.
Yay.)

3. I think it is only available from vets.
Frontline is the best for getting rid of fleas. The bug bombs is less effective and a lot more toxic to you and your cat. Bug bombs are not effective at killing the flea eggs that are waiting to hatch in your house and on your cat. Trust me on this.....go to any vet and get frontline...it works with one application.

Although you have given the kitty a bath, a new generation of fleas will hatch in 7-10 days from the eggs that are laying around the cats environment.

Think of frontline as birth control pill for fleas. Frontline is absorbed thru your cats skin and when the flea bites it gets a dose of something that stops it from reproducing, thus ending the life cycle of the flea.

4. try bio-spot
Bio Spot® Topical & Mist for Cats
Powerful treatment makes fleas on your cat a thing of the past

we use this on our dogs and cats. Works good. We've used it for past 7 years and haven't had a flea or tick problem. there are other similar products out there but the BIO-SPOT works the best for us.

In addition to the bio-spot on the critters -- fleas hide in crevases and in furniture. One apartment I lived in was pretty infested -- bombing helped, but it didn't do it all. I ended up mixing flea dip with some water and mopped the floors with it, and added it to carpet steamer solution. Washed the floors/carpets every couple of days -- and mixed it up in a spray bottle for spritzing the furniture. Took a couple of weeks to get rid of the fleas -- but it worked.
