A couple holiday dog treat ideas
Don't laugh at these. We heard these ideas from other dog owners and have tried them out. The dogs love them.

We've bought a case of canned pumpkin and substitute a cup of pumpkin for a cup of kibble. The pumpkin has no fat and is very low in calories. We actually tried it for a dog that was overweight. The dogs love it. Just mix it in with the kibble and they will scarf it down.

Another treat that we use is sweet potatoes. Just bake them like you would for people, let them cool, cut them into bite sized chunks and mix in with the kibble. Be sure to cut back on the amount of kibble since you don't want to overfeed the dogs. This one's also pretty healthy for the dogs.

Yeah, yeah. It sounds crazy but the dogs go crazy for them.

BTW, we've been told by more than one person that when they die, they want to come back as a dog in our house.

Happy Holidays.

1. great idea about the pumpkin
our dogs have a paunch... we did have them on a "diet" food for awhile -- worked ok, they did lose a bit of weight, but now they have seemed to "level out"

we'll give the pumpkin kibble a try

2. Not crazy at all...
Dogs have a definite "sweet tooth," and both of mine love sweet potatoes, both cooked and raw. Also sweet melons and the occasional bite of red apple (not those tart green ones ... ugh...). I haven't tried pumpkin yet, though they do get pumpkin seeds on occasion.
