Found a home for the stray we found!!!
With us.

I posted a few weeks back about this dog and how we tried to find the owner. Well, there is no owner. If someone wanted to find this dog, it would have been easy with all the signs, ads, calls, etc. we put out there. And I found out that shelters won't adopt out a dog that's part pit-bull. If we sent her to the shelter it would virtually be a death sentence.

Meanwhile, she has been with us and she has been the best dog imaginable. She's sweet and smart and loves everyone. I took her to the vet and she wagged and kissed at everyone and everything, cats included. The vet says she seems to have a great temperment and he thinks she's part lab anyway. She's healthy but needs spayed. She's only just over a year old but has already had a litter. The appointment is made.

We're really happy. She's a great dog.
So here is our new doggie, Maude:

1. She looks a lot like my brother's dog
who was put down last year. He was so devasted with the death of that dog that he hasn't gotten another animal.

She was a wonderful dog and I believe she was part lab as well. I hope you have many happy years with your dog.

2. I'm so glad it worked out!
She's lovely! We're taking care of our daughter's pit bull mix, Rowdy, and he's also a real sweetheart, except when someone comes to the door! The pest control guy came yesterday and he wouldn't go in the backyard due to Rowdy's growling.

Poor Rowdy had an episode with the fence the other day -- there's a dog on the other side that comes up and runs back and forth with our dogs. It's a ranch fence with three rows of barbed wire at the top. This has never been an issue in the nine years we have lived here but Rowdy apparently tried to climb it and got some cuts. I took him to the vet and he put a couple of staples in one cut on the top of his head and said the others will heal just fine. He also gave us some antibiotics -- two capsules twice a day. My husband and I were discussing the wisdom of trying to poke two pills down a pit bull's mouth -- Rowdy got wise very quickly and clamps his jaw! -- but he lets us pry his jaws open without the least bit of rancor. :D

My daughter said she was going to come get him today but I really don't want to let him go. She doesn't have her own place right now and is staying with this friend and that -- not the best for Rowdy, in my opinion. Out here, he has four doggie friends, a huge yard, and lots of loving from folks who don't go out partying every night! You can tell he misses her, though.
