Some days, you just KNOW when you done good
Cat people know the feeling. Something draws you somewhere because there is a cat in need. You don't know why or how, but you know. Friday, I HAD to go to the new PetSmart in our mall. I go there once a week, if only to visit all the pets that come with their friends and for the adoption sessions. PetSmart sets a great example for all the other pet chains by really being pet friendly and sponsoring weekly adoption sessions, for cats and dogs. And sometimes even reptiles and birds.

SO the first place I go to when I get there is the cat community in the back of the store, which houses 10 cats up for adoption. It's always fun visiting with the new arrivals, but they usually don't have older cats to adopt. That changed on Friday. I met someone new, Picasso.

Picasso lost his family a year and a half ago at the age of 8 when he was surrendered to his local shelter. A possible death in the family was mentioned, but his history had become dim with time. Six months ago, the good people of SOS Pets here in NJ saved him from the shelter. He's spent the last six months with them, but older cats are usually never adopted, even if they are talkative, healthy, playful, de-clawed, altered, great with people, dogs, cats, children, or butterflies, like Picasso.

I KNEW instantly I was his last great hope. I filled out the application on Friday, called impatiently yesterday, and picked him up this morning. He has adapted to his surroundings, and my other cats and dog, even though a little puzzled, are not causing a fuss.

Picasso has a forever home now. It's like he's lived here his entire life.

1. Awwwww - Well your relationship sounds positively fated!
What a handsome, handsome gentleman Picasso is :-)

Have you had a moment yet when he looked at you as if to say, "So, how come you took so long to come get me?" ;-)

3. He sits up on his haunches and talks at birds out the window
I've never seen that, and I've had dozens of cats through the years, but he'll just sit up, yak and then jump down off the table rub his face against the closest part of me.

I think he's happy now. Finally.

4. Picasso is going to love you until you wear out!
He sounds like he knows he has it made now! ;-)

I used to have a cat that talked to birds - Eli - it was always a rapid-fire series of syllables and squeaks... "meow-ma-ee-ee-ee-ma-ma" -- very sweet! I never, never let him get anywhere near the out-of-doors out of the conviction that he would have been a great bird hunter if he could inhibit his chatting before pouncing.

:-)

and such a sweet face. How could you have resisted him? That's funny about him sitting on his haunches, chattering at the birds. My cats do the chattering sometimes, too. Sounds like he's a happy boy! Hugs to you both.

Sniff, sniff...I just love happy endings.

6. So his first night in his new home, he crawled into bed
and slept next to me the entire night. My other two cats are a little upset because they still aren't sure, but that's ok, they'll all get used to each other. An the one other thing I realize when I saw him for the first time was his uncanny resemblance to a certain famous cat;

10. He really does look like the Kliban cat! I LOVE
KLIBAN and even have 2 old pillowcases from 1981 with the cat wearing orange tennis shoes.

12. Oh what a pretty boy, you an angel!
Best of luck and glad to hear that you adopted a mature guy -- alot of people overlook the young adults in favor of the kittens (I'm guilty of that) Hope you have many happy years together!! :loveya:
