Remembering Mugsy..........
Hello,

this is the anniversary (25 years) of the death of my puppy, Mugsy. He was part cocker spaniel, and he was killed by a hit and run driver when he was 4 months old.

I always seem to remember the anniversary of his death because he died way too soon. :( I still miss the little guy. :(

We lived in a town close to a provincial park and we were right on the highway coming into town. It wasn't really busy at that time of year.
Anyways, we let him out to run, and unfortunately, some people (we kind of figured out who it was later) drove into town and hit him. (not that they told us, but me and my sister figured it out)

We found him on the highway, and he looked so innocent, like he was napping. :(

Anyways, that's what happened.

Mugsy was a cute little dog, didn't look much like a cocker spaniel...Had big brown eyes and a cute little butt. :) It's always made me sad thinking he didn't have a long life. :(

2. Poor Mugsy, he never had a chance
It is nice of you to remember. I still think of my first dog, a terrier mix, Terri on her birthday (May 27, 1969) and on the day she died at the age of 17 1/2 (Nov. 2, 1986). Her ashes are still in an urn in one of my dresser drawers, along with the ashes of my second dog, Maggie (12/6/1986 - 6/23/99)

3. I'm a sentimental softie....
so it's really not too difficult to think of those I loved. :)

Mugsy was my first dog, so he holds a unique place. :)

Terri and Maggie were lucky to have you. :)

4. I am so sorry, and certainly understand
I am replying to you, and not to the original heart-wrenching message, because your dog shared a birthday with mine. My Sheena died on her 11th birthday, which was on May 27th, 2003. I had never lost a dog at such a young age, but she was diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome, and then cancer. I learned that she was subject to seizures, when I adopted her, so she had access to the best veterinary care, and I researched the Cushing's to death, even differing with her vets as to treatment, but we, eventually, lost. They both said I had chosen the right meds, though this not what they had initially recommended. *sigh* We fought the good fight and her little companion still misses her more than I can say.;(

5. I am so sorry, Darth_Kitten
I understand and sympathize. We tend to remember those who we lost when we were young or lost at far too young an age.;(

I have had four cockers in my life, and they are the best dogs, even though you said that your Mugsy didn't look as much like one. But they are cute, and loyal, and I also miss all of mine. My Barney lived until at least 18, though I will never know his exact age, since he was rescue. I still miss him, everyday. He was my perfect dog.;(

And I also had a perfect cat, who I also lost far too young. When my uncle died, his unpleasant wife got rid of his pets. Her relatives adopted his two dogs, but no one would take his two cats, so I did. Angela was the one I was meant to rescue, since I knew her and she had belonged to my aunt, who also died. She was a nice cat, but fairly reclusive. All anyone could tell me about the other kitty was that "it" was friendly. What an understatement! From the moment that this little cat did a delicate leap out of her carrier and into my life, I knew just how special she was. She came when she was called, loved everyone, except other cats, LOL! I could take her anywhere and she was just such a pretty thing. I hoped to have this cat, my cat of a lifetime, for 20 years. But then she got sick. I took her to a special hospital that my vet recommended, and she even put up with weekly acupuncture treatments! And this was a cat and she just fell asleep! But I did lose her, at age seven. And, like you, I am still mourning, at a very special life, cut so short. All the vet could say was that it must have been genetic. But I still miss my beloved Rhiannon, everyday.

6. Aww, poor puppers...
what an unfortunate accident. Did you ever get another dog? I lost a dog at age 4 (due to divorce) and I think I was so subconsciously traumatized that I never got another one. At 31 I softened up to cats. Now I can't imagine not having a cat in my life....
