Awwww....Now THIS Is A Sweet Forum!!
I admit to having a soft spot for animals...dogs especially!

I have a black lab/german shepherd mix named Lyric who is not quite 4 years old now. Got her when she was just over a year old. she was a shalter puppy till I threw her bail from puppy jail...and was two days away from being put down when I adopted her.

I thank the Lord the two of us managed to meet! We bonded immediately, right there at the shelter, and I knew she was for me.

It was like, we both looked at each other...and both of us thought, "I have to have her."

Well, I had two weeks left on a lease at my old apartment, and they didn't allow pets...and two weeks before my new apartment, which did allow pets...would become available. And Lyric was eight pounds over the weight limit my new landlady wanted.

I called her, and pleaded Lyric's case....I cried and begged a bit, and she agreed to make an exception to the rule for me...in exchange for an extra $100 non-refundable pet deposit. Between that and the adoption fees, it was the best $175 I ever spent!

They wouldn't keep her for two weeks for me, though...so I called a few friends from church, and I begged and cried, and pleaded Lyric's case...and one was kind enough to give Lyric a home for a couple of weeks for me. It was as though God knew the two of us needed each other, and He made it happen!

This same kind soul also kept Lyric for me for three weeks when I traveled to Thailand. Other than that, Lyric and I have never been apart.

Even the shelter people knew, when the two of us were together...because they even told me, "I hope you know she is picking you." rather than tell them right away I was also picking her, I asked them how they knew she was picking me. The answer: "We can't make her behave on a leash like that...she's showing off for you."

Dunno what they were talking about, because I've NEVER had trouble making her behave on a leash!! :p

Anyways, this is my way of introducing myself, and my beautiful doggie, to this Forum.

And, while we kid each other about it...we both know the turth...I don't have Lyric...SHE has ME!! She owns me, not the other way around. She has me wrapped around her little paw...the spoiled brat!! But I wouldn't have her any other way!

In fact, her tag does not read "Lyric. I am owned by _____________."
Her tag reads "Lyric. I am loved by _______________."

She even lets me sleep in her bed... :p

Anyways, hello all animal lovers here! And Lyric says "woof, woof, slurrrrrp!"

2. "She even lets me sleep in her bed"
Oh man do I know the feeling! I share mine with two Border Collies. I can't remember what it was like to stretch my legs.

Yes, it's amazing how they end up owning you, and not the other way around.

Welcome to the group!

5. Lol! my friends who have corgis
finally broke down and bought a king sized bed this year-not much room for them all otherwise!

I always wake up on the opposite side of the bed from where I started, sort of clinging to the edge, while Oberon is there in the center of the bed lying on his back with his feet in the air *sigh*.

7. You Want Pictures...You Got Pictures!!

There ya go!

The legs in the first picture are mine...that was the day I threw her bail from puppy jail. The rest of them were taken over a six-month period following that, so, in all the pics, she's about a year to a year and a half old...she's coming up on four years old now...her birthday is March 31.

8. I'm so happy for you and Lyric
And what a wonderful name for your dog, too.

I even got a tear in my eye when I read the story. I truly believe some humans and animals were meant to be together. How it happens is a mystery but the two find each other, just like you did with Lyric.

I know all this 'cuz I had a cat and we were true soulmates. She's gone now but there is still a close connection. We love each other and we will always.

10. I'm Happy, Too
Originally, when I went to the shelter that day, I went to look at four other dogs I'd seen on the Internet. Lyric wasn't one of them. i'd seen her on the net, but her listed weight was over the limit, so she was not originally on my list.

One of the dogs I went to look at that day had already been adopted out. and the other three? Somehow, it just didn't HAPPEN...I mean, we didn't have that bond...like Lyric and I did, the very second we locked eyes.

And your beloved cat is not gone. Allow me to tell you where she is...

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor: those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent: his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

But some of them here by the Bridge are different. They were beaten, starved, tortured, and unloved.
They watch wistfully as their friends leave one by one, to cross the Bridge with their special person. But for them there is no special one. Their time on Earth did not give them one.
But one day, as they run and play, they notice someone standing by the road to the Bridge. They see a person wistfully watching the reunions of friends, for during life, this person had no pet. This person, too, was unloved.
Standing there alone, one of the unloved pets approaches, curious as to why this person is also alone. And as the unloved pet and the unloved person get nearer to each other, a miracle occurs, for these are the ones who were meant to be together; the special person and the beloved pet who never had the chance to meet while on Earth. Finally, now, at the edge of the Rainbow Bridge, they meet, their pain and sorrow disappear, and two friends come together."
"They cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated."

12. Rainbow Bridge
I do believe in the Rainbow Bridge but for now, my little soulmate cat is still hanging around here. She makes her presence known not just to me, but to my spouse and even my scientist brother, who thinks things like this are absurd!

One night when my brother was visiting, he was lying on the couch and he was looking down at the floor and talking. I was in a chair in the same room and from this vantage point, I could see our kitty cats sleeping on the couch in the other room. I thought it rather weird that my brother was talking to the floor. He was talking and laughing and being quite animated, too.

The next day my brother remarked on the incident by observing how big the kitty's tail was. That was a characteristic of my little soulmate cat: she had this big, bushy tail. I knew then that she had materialized in ghost form to him, although I could not see her.

My brother insists it was the other cat but of course I know it wasn't because I could see both cats asleep on the couch in another room.

I do so love those gentle reminders that she's still here.

13. My Sadie still does that too.
She passed on Feb. 28th last year, but she sleeps with me sometimes. She had a characteristic sigh that she let out whenever I switched positions on the bed. She'd sigh, then get up and move to the other side of me and lay her head down on my legs. She still does that. I miss her.
