I have been taking my pups (10 yrs. and 8 yrs. old) to the vets since last spring with a disgusting skin infection with loss of hair. The vet could only tell me it was not mange (which was a great relief). He prescribed special shampoos, he dipped them, they took medication, we spayed them with organic "itch" spray - nothing worked. Two years ago, we had new carpet put in the house and had lots left over. We have been cutting new pieces periodically to carpet the dog house. This last week we ran out and threw the last piece away. The dogs are virtually well now, just in one week. All this time, it was the chemicals in the carpet.
I am devastated that my pups suffered so much over something so stupid and just wanted to post this in case anyone else comes across this. It makes perfect sense; wish I knew sooner.

A couple of years ago I had my carpet professionally cleaned. Came out like-new. But my older dog, who hadn't had an epileptic seizure since I cut out the soft-moist treats, promptly had a seizure from the chemical fumes. I didn't find them exactly pleasant either.
Personally, I hate wall-to-wall carpet. This is only one of the many reasons why.

We bought this house four years ago. Most of the first floor (except for one room) is ceramic tile. I will never go back to wall-to-wall carpeting.
No fleas since we moved here and we live in S. CA. Those little buggers have no place to hide :-).
