New Kitty has a name - Calypso (pic)

Meet Calypso (Caly for short)

Mythology: Calypso was a nymph, the daughter of the Titan Atlas. In Greek mythology, Calypso was a sea nymph who inhabited the island of Ogygia. After the last of Odysseus' men had perished at sea, she waylaid the homeward-bound Odysseus. Odysseus himself was washed ashore on Ogygia, where Calypso became enamored of him, taking him as her lover and promising him immortality if he would stay with her. Odysseus refused her offer, wishing to return home to Ithaca and to his wife, Penelope. But Calypso refused to let him leave, and held him prisoner for seven years. Finally Athena complained of Odysseus' plight to Zeus, and Zeus sent Hermes to Ogygia to order Calypso to set Odysseus free. Calypso complied reluctantly, allowing Odysseus to construct a small boat and set sail from the island.

Vet update: She'll be on the antibiotics for a few more days, but doing real well. She weighs in at a WHOOPING 2 pounds. No ear mites or fleas/tics (YEAAA!!!) She got some wormer meds today, next dose is 9/12.

She is safe and comfy cozy in a huge crate with a blanky, food, water, toys and her own private litter box. She'll be in there during the day while we are at work until she and our dogs come to a mutal understanding. (We have 2 greyhounds and an airdale). Plus it gives time for our other 4 cats to get use to another kitty in the house.

We'll have her out of the crate when we are home and able to supervise.

17. Zoe is adorable..and sooo helpful. Her reaction to the animals on TV is
a riot. I have a video of various animals for the cats. It is so funny to watch their reactions to it.

19. Thanks so much! Zoe will be happy to know she has another fan!...
...among many. Of course, we spoil her rotten. But isn't that what us cat owners are supposed to do!..:hi:

6. Very clever!
I see you took my "Callie" suggestion, and came up with something even better.

The only problem is that I've now got John Denver's yodeling stuck in my head! ;-)

10. update
We had her out of the crate last night to get her use to the dogs and visa-versa

The dogs were naturally curious - lots of sniffing. Caly did hiss and spit a bit, but calmed down when she realied she was just being "slimed" by wet dog noses. Although she did swat our big Greyhound (Sunny), he backed off, laid down, whined for a bit and then went to sleep.

Later on, Caly was "exploring" the bed. Sunny was sleeping at the foot of the bed, Caly went up and "touched" his paw - he woke up, whimpered and scooted down out of "paw" range. Kinda funny to see a 70-75 pound dog back down from a 2 pound kitten....

She played with a piece of string and the laser light for awhile, then settled down on my chest and went to sleep.

so far so good

11. I laughed when I read your dog/kitten encounter.
My now 5-month-male kittem kicks the living bejeezus out of my part pit female dog. It's hysterical. The kitten fetches but my dog won't. Within about a week they were the best of friends. My dog has about four beds scattered throughout the house, and the kitten laid claim to one. They are endless sources of entertainment. Congratulations on the new addition to your family.
