So, tonight I watched the memorial for Teddy.
All of it was good IMHO but a couple of songs really got me looking for the tissues.

The first of course was the beautiful rendition of "The Impossible Dream". I always loved that song and it suited the occasion. It brought back memories from my youth and I knew all the words.

But it was the ending where "Irish Eyes Smiling" (sorry, I know that may not be the full title, but I'm not Irish), I totally felt like Teddy was in the room with them. Anyone else get that?

1. I sure did!
Last night was what finally allowed me to let the grief out! I was bawling like a baby when that astounding rendition of "The Impossible Dream" was offered. It opened the flood gates and made me feel so much better. Irish eyes was the icing on the cake for this Irish lass. I could almost see Teddy leading the chorus at the end! Now THAT was a good Irish wake (sans the Irish whiskey)!!

2. I've always loved smiling eyes which to me means wrinkles extending

towards the eye - take a look at his smile-wrinkles all going to his eyes - even in the photos from his early days in the Senate. Combine the Irish craziness with smiley eyes - a winner.

3. I've had a peaceful feeling this evening ... Saturday. And yet I'm conflicted.
Edited on Sat Aug-29-09 11:05 PM by peacetalksforall
I have the feeling he was given to the people in this transition (for lack of common terminology, I'll just call it the transition into the age of aquarius). He showed us how a wealthy person can work exceptionally hard for legislation that helps all people, not just the corporations and institutions who are hell bent on controlling and owning us.

The reason I say conflicted is that it was very obvious that among so many friends in Congress he was really close to Dodd, then Kerry. I have read that of Dems, Dodd has the biggest pockets with lobbyists - that he is the lobbyists best friend.

This is kind of personal, because with each day, I feel that our enemy is not so much the Republicans as Republicans, but the corporations - it just happens that Republican congresspeople and the army of Republicans who push and pull the Republican congresspeople are all on the payroll of the lobbyists and who they represent. And the Dems are right there and possibly more duplicitous than Republicans.

I'm hoping that I am feeling peaceful because we could be on a different path. We have all learned plenty in these four days that we can keep close to our heart about his generosity. But how do we conquer this problem with the corporations and institutions who are determined to own us.

We write often on DU about the Kennedy assassination being a turning point in this country to domination - that they/someone got away with that crime, plus MLK and RFK. And many others. We cycle threads about where we were when JFK was assassinated. We have had so many good things happen - changes in the forms of improvements - including the revelations about the crimes of our crimes of our country. Each and everyone of us on DU has received the equivalent of an internet (and C-Span) degree in history, our Constitution, laws, the federal judiciary, how bills move through Congress. We've had 46 years of learning PLENTY!

We are learning more each day and it is helping us put our foot down. Kennedy has been putting his foot down on our behalf and we didn't even realize it that much. It is up to us to continue to demand. If Dodd reveres Kennedy so much, why can't Dodd change? We have to keep demanding, just as Kennedy did. We have to dump some of those Congresspeople and find more Kennedy types. Take Back.

I love, I desire peaceful feelings. We have to abandon the desire to 'pull one over' on the next guy whether we know the guy or not.

I am going to promise not to let myself forget all the things that warmed my heart in these last four days.

Just wandering here - trying to put it all together. Somehow I feel that what happened here with this charismatic person is more than just a hard working life, an illness, a passing, and the grief. Did he hand the work off to us? Did he show us where to put our foot down?

Can anyone point me to threads or articles along these lines - I haven't been able to read DU lately, I could use some pointers.

4. Well, as to his closeness with those people..
(and this is NOT said in a condemning way towards those particular senators, or towards. Mr. Kennedy himself)I firmly believe it was a case of 'keep your enemies closer'. And also the whole idea of 'love your enemies; it really gets them confused'! :)

Just an idea.

5. Don't believe everything you read..................
or everything your friends tell you. Chris Dodd is one of the GOOD GUYS!As is John Kerry. I live in Ct., have known Chris for years, and the repukes are putting on a big push this year to SMEAR him hoping to get his seat. If a weaker candidate primaries Dodd, and wins... kiss one Dem Senate seat from Ct. goodby!! Look how involved they got pushing Lieberman over the Dem. candidate!!! They wanted that turncoat in the Senate come hell or high water! That's how the Repukes in Ct. work!! Divide and conquer....works every time. IMHO JA
