Once, long ago...way to dang many moons ago..... :)
While meditating at my fire one night...I got to see the trees dance.
They were moving and weaving from the sky down to the earth.
It did not last long but I shall remember it forever.
It reminded me of a series of pictures of something moving in slow motion but with each stop in their weaving dance..the image of the tree seemed to stay while the tree itself kept dancing..and was still able to be seen.
To this day..the Standing on the Earth chant reminds me of their dance.
STANDING ON THE EARTH
Standing on the earth with my roots dug down.
Branches are wide open...
Down comes the sun...
Down comes the rain...
Down comes the fruit to the heart that is open to me.
Hazel
The Hazelnut tree is sacred to the wee folk.
It is said two hazelnut trees planted side by side can open a door to the fairy realm/astral plane so children are cautioned never to walk between two closely planted Hazelnut trees.
A forked Hazelnut branch is used for divining water and treasures in the earth.
All knowledge of the arts and science are bound by the hazelnut.
Sometimes a forked Hazel stick was used to divine the guilt of persons in cases of murder and theft.
A crooked Hazelnut wand is for the granting of wishes and it is considered lucky to carry a small twig of the Hazelnut tree.
Wisdom is associated with the Hazelnut along with wrath.
Because of the wee folks attachment to the wood it is an excellent conductor of energy...both positive or negative.
The Great Dragons/The Great Worms/Healers/Wizards of the ancients carried a Hazelnut staff...two twisted and grown together around the center one into one staff...with a pair of wings affixed at the top of the staff as the symbol of their office/powers. (The kundilini rising up the spine to the crown chakra)
That same staff symbol was stolen from the witches/healers of the past and is now used by the Doctors of today.
It is considered one of the best all-purpose woods for the construction of wands..although each tree has it's own special properties and magical uses too..still none are as versatile as the Hazelnut tree if you can find one.
If you get one...you can weave and braid the branches together to make wonderful staffs etc as it is very flexible and if you tell it what you intend it will help you form it...but as with all trees...it will take a while as trees are never in a hurry.
The Henry Walking Stick Hazelnut bush makes the very best wands, canes and staffs I think because it is already very twisty and spirals nicely.
One way to enlist the aid of plant and house fairies, is to string hazelnuts on a heavy thread and hang it up in your house.

Oak...
A very "masculine" wood and excellent choice for a man's wand or tools that need to be forceful.
The Oak is the tree of endurance, triumph, clearing the way, strength, charging and overcoming obsticles.
It has a lot of strength and power. It is ideal for the construction of any tool such as Athames, that needs the male influence as well as wands and staffs.
The oak tree is the tree of Zeus, Hercules, The Dagda (The Chief of the Elder Irish gods), Thor, Jupiter, and all other Thunder and male Gods. The royalty of the Oak is supreme.
The midsummer fire is always Oak.
The Oak was considered the most Sacred of all the Druidic trees used and is often associated with the King and all royalty.
The oak is endurance, strength, power, extraordinary great for energy conducting, attracting treasures and prosperity, self sacrifice, guardian, hero, ruler, and while dominant is also support.
This following site also has done their homework well and you might enjoy learning about more uses of different woods. :)
