I used to give her the benefit of the doubt until in her last book she asserted that a known athiest (Madalyn Murray O'Hair) had (her version of hell) gone right back through the "other door" and been instantly reincarnated. Woke me right up to the fake she must be. How could an all-knowing all-loving Supreme Concousness do that? Sorry; she is full of it. Anyone agree?

3. I've said this before about her |
|
and its just my take...
I feel Sylvia may have gotten some things right but it appears ego may have gotten in the way of any clarity there once was ....when things become more about the money and/or being right, thats when I stop paying attention to what that person says.
As for whether anyone "comes right back"...who are we to say or know?? Time has a very different meaning when you are not in 3D physical.
As for "an all-knowing all-loving Supreme Concousness "...I don't feel that someone or something else chooses our lives...I feel WE do that on another (soul or "higher") level and who is to say what is right for someone else when we only have the small viewpoint of this "reality".

4. That is also my take on her. |

I believe she is now into making money than anything. That has taken away from any reliability she now has. I used to buy her books till I realized that all she was doing was recycling her previous books.

6. Yea, she may have good intuition but she is |
|
definitely selling her "product". I watch how she questions people....gets a feel for their search. I also heard that when she is on the Montel Show, she has the audience participants fill out detailed questionnaires first.
So much for psychic insight. Her rates are outrageous too! Another clue.
Oh, I think her son or daughter is in on the gig now as well. Twice the bucks.

Anyone who charges that kind of money is not in it for the good of the people.
That's why I was curious about Mary Bogart, whom Sylvia likes and says "is the real thing". Mary only charges $30-35 for a half-hour reading. That's what's real.

10. I don't even know who Sylvia Browne is, |
|
yet I agree with everything you've pointed out, DR.
I've spent some time pondering this, myself. Just because we might be "open" to energies, messages, etc., and have a strong dose of active intuition, doesn't mean that we automatically use it responsibly, or that we always interpret what we get correctly.

It seems that Sylvia has some stuff right, some stuff wrong. Like everybody does. But she does seem to have gotten a bit off the track. Hard to say why that is, if it is the corruption that comes from making money, or it could be burn-out. Sylvia is into the concept that some persons do not go to the other side after they pass. That they must immediately incarnate. I am not sure what to make of this, and who are we to know. I've heard that this can happen with some suicides, and with some dark or gray entities. I guess the theory is that nobody on the other side wants dark entities in their space, so they continually recycle them. And if that doesn't work, then they have some kind of a cleansing that they do. It seems way beyond what we can fathom, and what actually occurs is, I bet, somewhat more complicated- related to what suits the individual's growth. Since long before Sylvia was on the scene, I've heard that suicides are greatly frowned upon. They disrupt the flow of not only 1 person, but many others as well. All the lives of people who's lives were somewhat entwined, who had stuff written into their charts to work out with that person. And it's a pain for them probably.

7. I too agree with DR except |
|
that I don't think she's all that bad these days. I don't think it's that bad to sell a book or have a website, etc. (not that that's what DR said).
The Sylvia Browne's of the world serve a very important purpose, IMO -- and no, none of them are every going to be 100% accurate. They bring new people to the phenomenon of suvival of consciousness after death, of being able to be in contact (however imperfect) with those who have gone beyond, and so forth and so on. It's a bit sensationalistic, it's a bit hype-ish, and perhaps thin on details, but it works.
And after that, those who are interested can dig deeper and learn more. Think of her act as one of those previews of coming attractions at a movie theater. Lots of glitz, not much substance, but may draw you in for future exploration.

My own *mother*, at 78, is reading a Sylvia Brown book that I picked up on a clearance table at my local metaphysical bookstore.
She loves watching her on Montel and mentioned that she would like to read a book or two.
Who am I to miss a cue like that?
Anything that opens up a consciousness is worth it to me, even if I think her version of things might be a little hard to swallow.

11. I am of mixed opinion of Sylvia Browne. |
|
Yet, despite some of my skepticism concerning the clarity of her insight into the Other side, every once in a while, she'll spit out something I think is, well, deeply insightful. I started paying attention to her when, of all times, I read (in 2003) that she had prognosticated that John McCain would win the Presidency in 2000. For so, so many reasons, I actually believe that could have happened, and would have if he'd sought the office as an independent candidate. In addition, sometimes her descriptions of what she sees of the Other side, yes, even as bizarre as they sometimes sound when she's talked about them on Montel, resonate with me. They're very similar to my few tangible visions of what it's like--especially the interconnectedness of everything Other with everything Here.

14. She also predicted Gore would win in 2000 |
|
And when he didn't she said she was not aware of the electoral college, which I doubt very much.
Second, if you have ever read any of Edgar Cayce's books, he admitted when he tried to use his knowledge for making money for himself he would fail miserably. For instance, he could give advice to others, such as where to drill for oil, but when he became involved in trying in any adventure where he would gain financially it would lead to complete failure, which lead him to believe he was only to use his knowledge for the good of others.
It is not that I begrudge her making a living, but I think she has gone way beyond that.

named Margaret Ruth also predicted Gore would win (I attended one of her seminars in late November 2000 when Bush and Gore were still battling it out, and that's when she made the statement). So yes, both Brown and Margaret Ruth were correct in their predictions...

12. I guess I see things differently |
|
I think it's not preposterous to imagine that O'Hair's spirit/soul/self could have been immediately reincarnated. I believe in reincarnation, but I would never dare to speculate on the hows and wherefores of how it works. Time is relative, after all, and if reincarnation occurs immediately after death, or after a mythic purgatorial processing, it doesn't really matter to me.
I guess I don't understand your question about "an all-knowing all-loving" Supreme Consciousness doing that. Who are we to determine how much, after death, is an appropriate amount of time to pass prior to reincarnation?
Now, as to the matter of whether or not Browne is a fake? I have no opinion.

make any claim she wants and we'll never know if it's true or not.
This is part of what is so nebulous about Browne's predictions.

|
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 09:46 AM by Love Bug
I noticed in reading a couple of her books she tends to speak in absolutes regarding what goes on on the Other Side. If she would qualify her statements with "I suppose" or "this is what I think" I think her statements would be easier to accept. She comes across as dogmatic and that usually doesn't go down well with fellow psychics.
I think she was dumb to accept The Amazing Randi's challenge then back out of it, too. Anyone should know having Randi test your abilities would be like having republicans count your votes -- the deck would be stacked in his favor.

she tells everybody what they want to hear, i.e.,
Will I ever have a baby? Yes. Will I ever get married (an older woman speaking)? Yes. Will my husband get the job he wants? Yes.
And so on.
Surely everybody won't get what they want. But she always says yes.

20. Just watching Sylvia on Montel's show today |
|
I'm just watching Sylvia Browne on Montel today and I have to say that some of her readings feel genuine and some don't. I think she has psychic ability, but she is afraid to say something like "I'm not getting anything" if nothing is coming through because of all the hype and publicity that she has had the past 15 years or so (ever since she started going on Montel). I think when she doesn't get any message or feeling that she then makes up something generic on the spot and quickly moves on to the next person. My personal feeling about psychics is that they sort of have to be on the same vibrational frequency as the people they are trying to read to be accurate. That means that none of them are accurate 100% of the time. I've had this experience with my own psychic ability.
I've always enjoyed her books and I especially like her interpretation of what the other side is like--it really resonates with me. But her demeanor is somewhat impatient with people, kind of a know-it-all vibe that turns me off. She usually seems tired and bored with it all. I also didn't like it when she formed a church. What is that all about?? Just my two cents!

21. Dang! I just picked up her book |

Edited on Sun Oct-16-05 07:12 PM by Proud_Lefty
I went to a luncheon yesterday to hear a friend of mine speak on election fraud. I didn't realize that the people attending were mostly freepers and needless to say, it got a little heated. At the tail end, I spoke my mind in support of my friend and left as quickly as I could. I was so depressed and demoralized to find myself in company with so many idiots. I really have isolated myself from these shallow people for a long time now and this caught me completely off guard. So I ran over to Costco and picked up her book to try to calm my nerves. So far, I'm enjoying it, but I'm always open to everything and even a suggestion on reframing my outlook seem to be helpful. Hope she's not a fraud, but my eyes are wide open.
