One's ascendant. I read somewhere
that after age forty, your ascendant becomes more dominant than your zodiac sign? Does anyone know about this? I'm cancer with a scorpio ascendant and would love to find out more about this.

1. I would like to hear about this too
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 05:19 PM by Sanity Claws
I'm over 40 and have become more like ascendant, Libra. However, I never fully personified my sun sign of Gemini. I don't know whether that is significant.

3. Nope.
But after age 40, odds are very great that your progressed sun is moving to the next sign (depends on what degree your natal sun is). But the progressed sun is very influential.

5. I'm starting to realize that progressions are more important
Edited on Thu Apr-22-10 08:45 PM by BlueIris
than I ever gave them credit for. All of you astrologers who specialize in progressions are probably laughing right now, but I have had three major "turning points" in my life, and they were all connected with a progressed planet changing signs.

7. They ARE very important
But, in my experience, nothing replaces or upstages the Sun sign. Even so, the rest of the chart has many stories to tell. :hi:

15. Progressions are my specialty.
Some folks are simply not that Solar is all.

Ya simply have to weigh out the influences.

That can be totally tricky at times.

best as ever.

4. Yes!
A close personal friend of mine is a published astrologer and just put out a new book on this very subject. It's called _Beyond the Mask: The Rising Sign._ I finally just finished it last night.

My own Rising Sign (Scorpio) will not be dealt with until part 2, but both of my children have Ascendants that are covered in the current part 1. I used to sit watching them sleep, wondering what kind of adults they would grow into. That question has been answered, and now I have some insight as to how they will mature as they get older.

The subject matter is fascinating, and the author covers it thoroughly -- including Jungian perspectives, archetypes from mythology, and multiple case histories.

I'm no astrologer and really only have the most basic understanding of the subject, but I found the book very insightful (just like my dear friend :) ...) and relatively easy to read despite much of the technical information given.

Check it out!

8. One thing that is fascinating...
is that Esoteric Astrologers feel that from birth, the Ascendant is more important. But, that is an entirely different way of doing astrology. For more on that, see my friend's site: www.meader.org :hi:

I'm really excited. :) I hope that Neptune backs off and lets my mind work.

I also have a reading with him on Monday.

12. Very insteresting, thank you!
You mentioned Jungian perspectives in your post... Have you ever taken the Myers-Briggs indicator test? There was a thread here on DU a while ago, Many of the respondents were in the INFJ / INFP areas. And those are the groups the fewest people in the general population fall into! That made me go "hmmmmm?!"

16. You're welcome.
The author, Kathleen Burt, mentions Jung fairly often in this book as well as in her last, Archetypes of the Zodiac. She references a group called "Friends of Jung," as well, although I'm not sure if she's actually a member or not.

I have heard of the Myers-Briggs test and remember seeing the thread about it here. To be honest, I've never actually taken the test -- probably meant to and then went off on some new tangent and forgot all about it. However, there are lots of things in this life that make me go "hmmmmm?!" :D

17. Dear silverweb, by all means, take the test!
It's free of charge on several websites and it doesn't take a whole lot of time. And believe me, it is enlightening!

20. I loved the explanations and descriptions of the individual types
in the books I have on the subject. It even explains how the various types manifest themselves in children early in life, and how to help children enhance their gifts. Careers the types are particularly suited to, styles of leadership and cooperating with others. I've taken the test in various "guises" several times, and I always turn out to be an INFJ.

13. There is something called shamanic astrology...
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 01:03 PM by I Have A Dream
which considers your ascendant to be where you're going (what you're here to learn), and your moon to be where you're coming from. (You need to be focusing on the ascendant, and trying not to fall back into the patterns of the moon sign.) It's similar to the North/South nodes concept. The sun sign isn't really that important in the scheme of things in shamanic astrology.

Note that this is for your whole life -- not just after you reach 40, so it's not really what you're asking, but I still thought that I'd throw it out there since it is about the ascendant being really important.

23. Without question for me. Virgo Sun w/Libra Rising.
I've heard this theory before. I definitely feel much more like a Libra than a Virgo (at 52).

25. When Sun sign & Ascendent are the same, it makes thing simpler.
Or perhaps more difficult. Hard to say.
