Cleansing? Or does the universe just hate me?
So, like, first it was my laptop--kablooey. And there went a big chunk o' change for a new one.

Now it's my Jeep. After 10 years and 183,000+ miles, my transmission is...er...let's say it's getting its things in order in preparation for an imminent passing. Bracing for another big chunk o' change requirement.

Money go out, but no money come in. :banghead:

Plus it's like every mechanical item that plays a key role in my day-to-day functioning has decided to abandon me. Why? It's not even Merc ret!

Sigh. Somebody point me toward the lottery tickets...Help me, New York State Lottery; you're my only hope.

1. Okay, try this out:
I have come to the conclusion that monotheism simply doesn't cover it, that there is a vast multitude of deities or spirits or gods which really control things. Clearly the technology and automotive gods are requiring a much larger offering from you than from some others.

 :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:

I long ago decided to view reality and my experience of it as if multiple gods are running the show. It can actually be quite amusing trying to figure out which god is at work at a given time. I like to tell people that the technology gods don't like me -- technology rarely works properly when I'm around. On the other hands, the parking gods adore me. I ALWAYS get good parking spaces. And the parking gods find spaces for me even when I'm the passenger, not the driver of the vehicle.

Anyway, much sympathy for all your trials and tribulations.

(If you need to get a replacement car, I might suggest a Honda. At least the Honda gods like me a lot and I always get good ones. The Subaru gods, on the other hand, treat me with utter disdain and allow my Subarus (I've owned two) to need new clutches far earlier than they should, or for the engine to break down entirely before 100,000. I will no longer worship at their shrine.)

4. LOL what do they want from me--an offering of several quarts of motor oil?

I suppose I've been blessed automotively, overall. I mean, this puppy has lasted me 10 years and more than 180,000 miles. I've been car-payment-free for seven years, and Lord Valvoline knows that was welcome when money was tighter than it is now. I...just...wanted...it...to...last...six...more...months...

Alas. 'Twas not to be, I guess. I wonder why I couldn't squeeze just a few more months out of it, just so Mr. MG's car payments would end before I started a new car loan. SIIIIGGHHHH.

Fascinating that you've had a hard time with Subarus--everyone always recommends them and they say they're diehards. Perhaps you and Subaru don't vibrate at the same frequency... :D

I also wanted the car to last till the end of the year so I could get a new Fiat 500 when they go on sale here in January. NOW what--clunker for a while, just to bridge the gap?

14. I know that Subarus are actually wonderful
cars, and I really would recommend them to anyone. But the Subaru gods are contemptuous of me, and I don't know why.

The Honda gods really, really like me. I've been directly responsible for the purchase of a total of 9, yes 9, Honda either Civics or Accords within a three year period. It's a long story, and involves, among other things, five cars being totaled (2 in a five day period) and otherwise "normal" replacements. And one Honda purchase was some 1500 miles from me, when I persuaded a friend whose car got totaled, to replace an aging Nissan with a good used Honda.

Also, the automotive accident gods like to toy with us, as four of the five cars totaled belonged to either me or my sons, and in no accident were we at fault. It was always the other person's fault. Maybe it's the insurance gods who take pity on us. I haven't quite figured that out yet.

I actually enjoy purchasing replacement cars. I used to buy new, I now only buy used, and I've figured out some basics. It's not hard, and the internet has drastically changed car buying for the better, in my opinion. Actually, if I go more than seven or eight months without being involved in buying a car, I start to feel like somethings missing! And, it's been since last August that I've last helped someone (one of my sons) buy a car, so it's about time.

6. Yeah, I'd recommend that
Considering our computers died within weeks of each other!
:scared:

Money drain is supposed to end on 6/8. Of course, by then I won't have any money at all! :o

Thanks for the money vibes. I will accept that gladly and send the same to you!

I do have that one bid in the pipeline--the same gig at the community college that I did last summer. Here's hoping I get it again--that would make for a nice downpayment on a new car.

7. We are in the same money drain hell.
Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 07:31 AM by eilen
My car needed a $360 fix-- so I could shut the driver side door. My AC cost well over $600 to repair and meanwhile Neptune is casting the stink eye at our pool as it keeps leaking and leaking no matter what my dh does to fix it. In fact this pool has been a huge money drain. When the kids were little they loved it. Now, almost no one uses it. I'm at the point where I would like to rip it out of the yard but my niece is coming to visit and it would be nice for her to have use of it. My son lost his cellphone yesterday and this morning our microwave send angry charges across it's interior when I tried to reheat my coffee. One of our PC's died (for almost no reason what so ever); my favorite radio station won't connect on my internet radio anymore (KPOJ), even my sewing is off. My son is barely passing his math class and definitely failing cinematography-- I guess his teacher doesn't care for his journal entries.

My husband is on his second month of unemployment (he had a job that lasted 3 months, prior to that was out of work for 6); I was very hopeful last month reading Susan MIller's horoscopes as we are both Leo's but apparently that was written for the other Leos-- not us. Anyway he is making me nuts as the longer he is out of work the more controlling and miserable he gets and I feel I am in a pressure cooker. It is very hard to stay supportive and not lash out. And... My MIL is coming for a visit in 2 weeks. Have I mentioned that she is a rabid far right wing Fox Ooze fanatic teabagger?

Oh and the bill for the AC comes at the same time as the bill for the auto insurance and the mortgage. GRRRRRRRR.

Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 07:55 AM by MorningGlow
It's just nonstop, "OMG what in the world could happen next". Although I have to say that you've got me beat in the "ugly surprises" department. Er...congratulations...?

Anyway, I do hope this thing, whatever it is, passes SOON. My bank account can't take much more of this. (And I have to figure out how I'm going to buy a new car six months ahead of schedule. Erk.)

15. Update--
My son found his cellphone. Unfortunately, my husband, while trying to get the pool fixed ended up slip/falling in a pool of water he created in the garage and twisted his knee. Now he is laid up and couldn't go to work if he had a job to go to. I am hoping it heals quickly-- we are putting ice compresses and elevating it. He can bear weight on it but bending.... Ouch! We put on the air tonight to cool the house and I shake my fist at the sky--the damn thing isn't working.

I'm almost ready to burn the house down and start over.

9. replace tranny
My friend's transmission just went out and he did a lot of research on what path to take. Turns out there is a place on the internet that does kit transmissions and they have a garage network all over. He said it was around 11-1200 and that includes the labor. They tell you, however, it could be more if they find out there are other issues. That part is kind of "iffy," to me.

If you think this might be an option and want the name of the place, let me know and I'll ask him when I see him in a few hours.

The thing is that if you can get your car working for even 1500-1800, you don't need to buy a new one. You know what they say about the "devil you know." :)

11. Thanks, Cher
However, I'm afraid this vehicle doesn't warrant splashing out that much money at this stage of its life (unfortunately). It's completely rusted out, and it's inevitable that more stuff is going to conk out in the near future. Mr. MG and I have talked about it at length, and spending more than $400 on any repair whatsoever is like throwing money into a hole. :(

16. It looks as though by reading this thread we'll need a bigger boat ;=D
You can add me to the list of where the frick is the money. Hubby still hasn't been paid for his services rendered from a year ago. This was a client from hell, and apparently that's where they should end up, of course if I believed in such a place, maybe Hell on Earth.

And yes, the Mac God / Goddess has been messing with my laptop.

I need a mouth full of teeth repaired. Researching going to Costa Rica for that which looks as though it will take two trips. We're trying to find me a travel buddy as we both can't afford to go. It's also looking like it will cost me up to $15,000 for all of the work to be done.

Hubby is willing to sell off some of his music studio to help pay for it. Although my mother should have paid for some of this, as she promised when she had my teeth extracted while living under her care ((???)) even knowing that she had to have dentures when she was in her 30's she didn't bother to teach us good dental hygiene. My first visit to a dentist was at the old age of fifteen. And the dentist she chose ripped my tooth out with a drill that had me clinging to the chair and kicking my legs and feet. It's very hard for me to forgive her for my dental problems. But hey at least my big brothers didn't have to forfeit playing their sports and the cost that goes along with it.

But what really PISSES me off more than anything in the World is this: I am a loving, caring person and I cause no harm to anyone, yet I am soooo poor at the present moment. However, the hatemongers and fear peddlers are making multi-million dollars for their "work" :wtf: is up with that, and :wtf: wrong with that picture :banghead:

So, Sister, I can sympathize with you. May the Cosmos heed our prayers {{{ O8) }}} for relief, sooner rather than later
